The Lead Pre-Board Screener oversees daily screening operations and leads a team of security screeners to ensure compliance with safety protocols, regulatory standards, and company policies. This role is responsible for incident resolution, and performance monitoring. The Lead Pre-Board Screener serves as the primary point of contact for the Pre-Board Screener and plays a key role in maintaining a secure and efficient screening environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervises and supports screeners during shifts, addressing performance, conduct, and operational concerns.
- Monitors screening procedures to ensure compliance with security protocols and regulatory standards.
- Conducts random quality checks and observe screening activities to maintain consistency and accuracy.
- Responds to passenger inquiries, resolve screening discrepancies, and escalate potential threats as needed.
- Identifies and reports suspicious items or activity to the supervisor.
- Maintains accurate records of screening activities, including incident reports and performance metrics.
- Generate and submit reports on screening statistics, compliance, and team performance.
- Foster a positive team environment through coaching, communication, and conflict resolution.
- Identify process improvements to enhance screening efficiency and service quality.
- Ensure adherence to all company policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Adapts to changing operational needs, including variable schedules, extended shifts, and weekend or holiday assignments.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.
Qualifications
Required:
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Experience: Prior experience as a Screener with proof of certification (current or expired).
- Licenses: Ability to obtain or maintain valid Unarmed Private Guard Card (in accordance with state, county, or city regulations) and valid TWIC card.
- Certification: Successfully complete the TSS Pre-Board Screener Course as a requirement of employment.
- Knowledge: Understanding of MTSA regulations and facility security protocols.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to focus on designated tasks and avoid distractions in a busy environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred:
- Additional Experiences: Customer service experience in a high-volume or MTSA regulated setting.
- Prior experience: Prior Screener with proof of certification (current or expired).
- Certifications: MTSA and Pre-Board Security Screener certification (if not already held, training is provided by company upon hire).
- Knowledge: Familiarity with maritime or port security operations.
- Skills: Ability to calmly and professionally manage tense or confrontational situations.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Physical Demands: This role requires the ability to sit, stand, and bend down, for extended periods, including frequent movement between workstations. The Pre-Board Screener must inspect identification documents, operate radios and X-ray equipment. Work is performed indoors. Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds may be required. Visual focus, basic computer and writing skills are essential.
Final candidates must successfully complete a background check and drug screening, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy. - Work Environment: Work is performed at indoor security stations. Conditions may include exposure to noise, forklift traffic, and active operational zones. Personal protective equipment (PPE) and uniforms are provided and required as needed.
