Position: SECURITY GUARD (MULTIPLE OPENINGS)

The Division of Campus Community Safety (DCCS) unifies front‑line public safety units across the University to enhance campus safety, innovation and clear leadership. The UW Police Department’s Campus Facility Security Program offers an outstanding opportunity for a Security Guard. The purpose of the program is to enhance the safety of students and personnel by providing safety and security patrols to campus facilities and areas where assigned.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Perform duties primarily on foot; may operate a University vehicle as needed.
  • Capable of providing Safety Escort service as part of the Husky Night Walk Program to various locations on campus during designated times, as necessary and approved by on‑duty supervisor.
  • All drivers will adhere to Washington State traffic laws while on duty and operating a University vehicle. All drivers must successfully complete the UW Transportation – Safe Driver program.
  • During security shift times, if a medical emergency develops, the guard must request Seattle Fire Medics to the scene and may administer first‑aid if authorized through department protocols.
  • Security patrols shall avoid confrontational situations; if one develops, the guard shall request a police officer presence immediately.
  • Advises UWPD dispatch via radio whenever suspected criminal activity or suspicious circumstances are observed. The guard is not to make contact or use force unless an extreme situation occurs.
  • Secondary responsibilities include:
  • Roving patrols of buildings, parking lots/garages, and bike racks for criminal and/or suspicious activity.
  • Building admits.
  • Building checks and sweeps.
  • Battery jumps.
  • Special security details as assigned.
  • Other specified functions determined by the on‑duty supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Physical capacity to perform duties.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
  • No previous felony convictions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Security experience.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including clear radio communication during emergencies and accurate record keeping.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to interface professionally with a diverse community.
  • Good analytical and observation skills.
  • Sound judgment and decision‑making ability.
  • Ability to operate under stressful situations and maintain composure.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a teamwork atmosphere.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Adaptability to changes in the external environment, including inclement weather and use of protective gear.
  • First Aid and CPR certified or willingness to obtain certifications upon hire.
  • Flexible and available to work night shifts, weekends, and overtime with little or no advance notice.
  • Comfortable working in and patrolling campus buildings solo, including high‑rise buildings.
Conditions of Employment
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • No felony convictions.
  • Driving history for the past three years must not show a pattern of unsafe driving habits or convictions for Reckless Driving, Negligent Driving, or Driving under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs.
  • Ability to work at night.
Compensation, Benefits and Position Details

Pay Range Minimum: $45,288.00 annual.

Pay Range Maximum: $53,400.00 annual.
