About the Position:
A Security Guard 2 is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Video Monitoring Center functions, designated within the Washington State Ferries Alternative Security Plan. The primary duties are to provide 24/7/365 visual assistance to the WSP Homeland Security Division and security aboard WSF’s 21 vessels and 16 terminal properties. They assist local law enforcement with investigations of crimes that occur on WSF property, including locating witnesses, suspects, suspicious persons, documenting activities, and furnishing video in accordance with Sensitive Security Information regulations.
Aboutthe Division:
The Homeland Security Division (HSD) encompasses Vessel and Terminal Security (VATS) for the entire WSF fleet and terminal security in Western Washington counties, command of the four WSP inter‑agency bomb squads, canine handler training for explosives and narcotics canine teams, agency homeland security and emergency management coordination, and manages the Washington State Fusion Center (WSFC).

Our new teammate will be able to:- Proactively and reactively monitor WSF cameras, computer software, and systems located in the VMU in support of the Homeland Security Division and mission.
- Fulfill video search requests made by WSF and law enforcement entities.
- Coordinate with WSP Communications centers for information dissemination.
- Field calls from WSF/Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Operations for security threats, complaints, and accident/injury claims.
- Conduct camera system checks daily and report defective cameras to WSF DOT Information and Technology Division (ITD). Coordinate with WSF ITD to identify and catalog critical camera views for secure spaces aboard vessels and terminals.
- Review, package, provide Sensitive Security Information (SSI) labeling, and forward requested video footage via FTP File Transfer to SSI‑cleared requesters.
- Train new employees on the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) manual for the Video Monitoring Unit.
Please note:
Work schedules vary to cover 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year, including holidays. The incumbent may be expected to adjust their work schedule to meet operational needs and work alone in an isolated space.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience as a security guard, correctional officer, store investigations security officer, police officer, military police, or other law enforcement.
WSP Policy 1.04.020 – WSP does not engage in, or assist with, civil immigration enforcement; therefore, at no stage of the hiring process will the immigration status of family members of the candidate be investigated by the Washington State Patrol.
