Position Overview

The Campus Public Safety Officer is a uniformed, non‑commissioned officer who serves as the first responder to university emergencies and supports day‑to‑day campus safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactive patrols and security monitoring (60%) – conduct patrols, respond to non‑emergency requests, escort persons, and maintain a customer‑service approach.
  • Communications center operations – monitor CCTV, safety systems, dispatch responders, triage calls, and maintain incident records.
  • Emergency response and incident management (20%) – first responder to medical, accident, and security incidents; provide immediate care; coordinate EMS, fire, and law enforcement; document incidents.
  • Community engagement (10%) – offer mental‑health and wellbeing support and collaborate with university departments to improve campus safety.
  • Other duties as assigned; shift coverage during campus closures and holidays; rotate day/night shifts with a team of 5‑6 personnel.
Job Activities

Move, communicate, observe, recognize, run outdoors in all weather conditions.

Required Qualifications
  • High‑school diploma or equivalent with at least one year of security experience.
  • Physical fitness: bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, walking, running, restraining, lifting up to the weight of a person, climbing stairs, occasional work above 30 feet, confined spaces, varying weather.
  • Communications: oral, written, two‑way radio, telephone, face‑to‑face.
  • 21 years of age or older; valid Washington state driver’s license.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid within three months of hire.
