About Seattle Sustainable Landscapes (SSL) is a fast-growing, residential-focused landscaping company built around craftsmanship, sustainability, and people helping people. Our Irrigation & Lighting Division is our fastest-growing division
, and we’re strengthening the field team with experienced technicians before scaling further into management.

This role is for a senior, hands-on irrigation technician who wants to stay in the field today—with a clear, realistic path into division leadership as the company grows.

The Role:

Senior Technician First

This is a highly physical, field-based position
. The majority of your time will be spent working alongside other technicians, handling complex systems, and setting the technical standard on job sites.

Leadership and administrative responsibilities will grow over time as the division scales and is able to support a full Division Manager role.

What You’ll Be Doing (Day-to-Day)
  • Perform advanced irrigation diagnostics and repair
  • Lead and support irrigation installs (stand-alone and Design-Build projects)
  • Handle complex troubleshooting and system retrofits
  • Support outdoor lighting installs and service (secondary portion of work)
  • Work directly in the field with other irrigation technicians
  • Perform daily physical labor (digging, trenching, lifting, kneeling, working outdoors)

This role is not primarily administrative. You will be in the field most days.

Informal Leadership & Mentorship
  • Support and guide junior technicians on job sites
  • Lead by example in workmanship, efficiency, and safety
  • Help raise the technical bar across the team
  • Act as a trusted technical resource for the division
Client Interaction & Sales Support
  • Communicate professionally with homeowners on site
  • Identify system issues and recommend solutions
  • Support estimating and sales efforts for irrigation and lighting work
  • Earn commission on sold work
Growth Path:
Promotion Into Division Manager

As the irrigation division continues to grow, this role is expected to evolve into an Irrigation Division Manager position. Over time, responsibilities may expand to include:

  • Crew leadership and scheduling coordination
  • Estimating and bid creation
  • Project management for irrigation installs
  • Client meetings and proposal presentations
  • Coordination with Design-Build and Operations teams

Promotion is performance-based and aligned with division growth
, not time-based.

Work Schedule & Environment
  • Morning start at our Seattle shop/location
  • Majority of time spent in the field
  • Job sites throughout the Seattle metro area
  • Some admin and planning work as the role evolves
  • Seasonal workload typical of irrigation work in the Pacific Northwest
Who This Role Is For

You’re likely:

  • A senior irrigation technician or highly skilled installer
  • Comfortable with physical work and outdoor conditions
  • Respected by peers for your technical skill
  • Interested in leadership—but not ready to leave the field yet
  • Looking for long-term stability and growth
Required Experience
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
  • Irrigation diagnostics and repair
  • System installs
  • Valves, controllers, drip systems, backflow devices
  • Ability to perform physical labor daily
  • Experience working independently and supporting others in the field
  • Valid driver’s license
Preferred (Nice to Have)
  • Outdoor or landscape lighting experience
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish)
  • Experience working on design-build projects
  • Prior mentoring or lead-tech experience
Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Salary: $80,000–$100,000 (DOE)
