About The PositionThe Heavy Equipment Mechanic diagnoses, adjusts, repairs, or overhauls mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment, such as winches, diesel and electric hydraulic power units, spoolers, cranes, forklifts, and vehicles. Work may be done on both Rasmussen or customer owned equipment in a Rasmussen shop or in the field. Heavy Equipment Mechanics will sometimes provide technical expertise & advice to customers and other Rasmussen team members.
EssentialDuties And Responsibilities
- Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
- Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications.
- Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
- Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
- Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
- Repair, rewire, and troubleshoot electrical systems.
- Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
- Weld or solder broken parts and structural members, using electric or gas welders and soldering tools.
- Adjust, maintain, and repair or replace subassemblies, such as transmissions, hydraulic systems components, and fuel systems, using hand tools, jacks, cranes, and power tools.
- Install, maintain, diagnose issues and repair of industrial diesel engines.
Employees must be able to lift/move up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 80 lbs occasionally. The role involves standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling, squatting, crouching, balancing, climbing ladders, crawling, and using hands and feet for tasks. Requires talking, hearing, and vision including close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
Work EnvironmentThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment varies from low to high.
