The N.C. The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees.

Tidewater Research Station is hiring an Agricultural Technician II with growth potential for a fulfilling career in agriculture. Our mission is to serve as a platform for agricultural research to make farming more efficient, productive, and profitable, while maintaining a sound environment and providing consumers with safe and affordable products. This Agricultural Technician II position will support research efforts in the Livestock Unit and requires some rotating shift, weekend, holiday, and overtime work depending on station needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Tasks related to beef and swine livestock production, such as feeding and general care of animals.
  • Tasks related to pasture management and forage production.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all animal data.
  • Maintaining and repairing buildings when required.
  • Availability for rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of general agricultural animal production and understanding of crop production and pasture management.
  • Ability to effectively operate and maintain tractors, mowers, and associated farm equipment.
  • Physical ability to perform strenuous manual duties both inside and outside under adverse weather conditions and independently lift 50 lbs routinely.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Forklift Driver Certificate.
  • Medical clearance to wear a half mask or full-face respirator with cartridges.
Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience in the general care and management of animals or crops, or laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
