Description Position LocationSeattle, WA
SummaryPerforms routine mechanical work on U.S. Navy shore facilities, waterborne vessels, surface ships and/or submarines. Tasks will be related to inspections, repairs, modernization and/or alterations.
Duties and Responsibilities- Proficient in the use of precision measurement equipment including scales, vernier calipers, micrometers and torque wrenches.
- Experienced with use of torque wrench extensions and multipliers.
- Proficient in the use of portable drill presses.
- Perform disconnects and connections of mechanical joints.
- Remove and install various equipment using sound engineering practices.
- Overhaul various pumps and valves.
- Ability to troubleshoot and determine faulty equipment, determine cause of malfunction and determine best repair method.
- Hydrostatically test pumps, valves and piping.
- Read and follow technical manuals for various equipment.
- Fill OQE forms.
- May lead a small team of mechanics.
- Perform duties as Firewatch.
- Assist with cleaning up work area.
- May be required to travel to other locations.

Language AbilityAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer SkillsMust possess basic computer skills to enter data into different data basis.
Education/Experience- Must have completed a formal related course of study in trade through either a community college, technical or trade school, military training, formal company training program or an apprentice program.
- Must have 1+ years of verifiable experience as a mechanic in an industrial environment (i.e., shipbuilding, ship repair or nuclear power plants).
Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain a security badge for all military installations and civilian shipyards as needed.

- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, written technical instructions and manuals.
- Must possess working knowledge of shipboard operating requirements.
- Must understand material safety data sheets (MDS).
- Able to follow safety procedures.
