Position Summary

This is the journey, working or occupational level of the series. Positions at this level perform a variety of skilled work in the operation, maintenance, repair, remodeling and construction of buildings, grounds, machinery, mechanical facilities and equipment, and systems and equipment. Incumbents work independently and utilize a general knowledge of several related skill fields such as plumbing, electrical, welding, carpentry, and machinist work.

This position holds a specialization in locksmithing duties including installation, repair, re‑keying, and maintenance of mechanical and electronic locking devices, digital locks, door hardware, and keying control systems across campus facilities.

This position may provide functional guidance or lead work activities related to specialized maintenance functions, including locksmith operations.

This position is typically scheduled to work Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The schedule may vary depending on program needs. May be required to work evenings and weekends as needed.

What you will be working on
  • Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on all types of mechanical equipment such as electrical drive motors, laundry, kitchen laboratory and air‑conditioning equipment; changes oil, greases, changes or cleans filters, drive belts, sprockets, shafts, and bearings to ensure proper operation;
  • Performs preventative maintenance such as oil change, lubrication, fix flats, repair lights, replace fan belts, etc., on shop equipment, vehicles and construction equipment;
  • Performs maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical, mechanical and structural systems of buildings and utility distribution;
  • Performs skilled work including installation, repair, re‑keying, and maintenance of mechanical and electronic locking devices, digital locks, door hardware, and keying systems across campus facilities.
  • Maintains and manages key control systems, including issuance, tracking, and recordkeeping related to keys and access devices.
  • Inspects locking systems and related hardware to ensure safety, security, and operational integrity; responds to emergency access and lockout situations as needed.
  • Performs basic programming and maintenance of electronic access control systems, including routine access changes and troubleshooting of locking hardware and software.
  • Provides technical guidance and coordination to other staff performing locking device‑related tasks to ensure proper methods, safety compliance, and completion of work assignments.
  • Monitors safety, fire protection and environmental control equipment to ensure the building systems and equipment are operating in a satisfactory condition; respond to service request and secure necessary assistance; take preventative and emergency action to control malfunctions;
