Location: Seattle, WA
SummaryUsing brazing and cutting equipment and various power and hand tools, the pipefitter performs a variety of shop and shipboard pipefitter trade functions. These functions include the repair and/or removal of old structural materials; the installation and fit‑up of new structural materials and complete fabrication of complex fluid system piping and piping hangers and supports. Works under direct supervision and performs related work as required.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Apply basic pipe fitting and brazing processes to join, fabricate, or repair fluid system piping and associated hangers and supports.
- Proficient in fitting straight pipe runs between brazed, welded, or mechanical fittings.
- Work from blueprints, engineering sketches, and specification requirements to determine materials and construction processes required to fabricate component parts and develop a complete unit as designed.
- May lay out and mark points on parts or subassemblies using rules, square, scribe, or templates.
- May position pieces to be welded or brazed into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools.
- Knowledge of the processes and procedures necessary for the proper removal of old equipment and piping systems with minimal damage to surrounding materials.
- Maintain certification in the brazing procedure(s) as required by the Quality Assurance Manager.
- Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Participate in special projects as required.

Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Computer
Skills:
Must possess basic computer skills to enter data into different data bases.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED plus technical/vocational training or the equivalent combination.
- Typically requires 1+ years of related experience.
- Experience working in the marine fitter trade gained through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training is preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of brazing standards and brazing procedures.
- Current brazing certification for Cu and CuNi piping materials.
- Skill to make acceptable brazes as determined by either peel test or UT test.
- Read and understand blueprints and specifications.
Certificates and Licenses: Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and obtain and maintain a security badge for all military installations and civilian shipyards as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Other Abilities:
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Advanced knowledge of welding tools and procedures.
- Knowledge of geometry, weld shrinkage, welding techniques, and physical properties of metal.
