Position Overview

An experienced Marine Electrician Lead is sought to manage and actively participate in a range of electrical projects involving marine vessels and floating structures—including cargo ships, fishing vessels, barges, and tugboats. This individual will serve as the Electrician Lead of Record (EoR), overseeing projects from initial request for quotation (RFQ) through final installation, testing, and compliance. The role requires strong technical expertise, project ownership, and the ability to deliver results under tight deadlines while meeting client requirements and industry standards.

Compensation

$90, base salary plus bonus (negotiable).

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning and execution of marine electrical projects, both onshore and offshore
  • Oversee installation and upgrades of electrical systems on vessels and port-side structures
  • Coordinate with internal teams and clients to ensure adherence to quality, safety, and schedule goals
  • Conduct field work in active shipyards or onboard vessels, including deep-water environments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical issues in a fast‑paced, dynamic setting
  • Serve as a mentor to apprentices and less experienced electricians
  • Maintain accurate project records and contribute to continuous improvement efforts

Required Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of experience with electrical systems on commercial marine vessels (e.g., tugboats, barges, container ships)
  • Proficient in marine electrical systems installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Strong understanding of shipyard safety procedures and OSHA regulations
  • Familiarity with lockout/tagout protocols
  • Intermediate to advanced electrical theory knowledge
  • Competence using multimeters and electrical diagnostic tools
  • Ability to perform load calculations and apply Ohm’s Law
  • Experience with 480

    VAC 3‑phase systems, including grounded/ungrounded configurations
  • Skilled in designing, installing, and servicing motor controllers, VFDs, and soft starters
  • Able to read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Solid math skills (including fractions, operations, and metric/imperial conversions)
  • Experience with cable sizing, breaker selection, and motor circuits
Interview Evaluation
  • Schematic interpretation

  • Circuit diagram creation for motor controllers
  • Demonstration of understanding Ohm’s Law
General Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Personal hand tools required (specialty and power tools provided)
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Compliance with safety guidelines, including restrictions on jewelry and offensive apparel
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends on short notice—especially during high-demand seasons
