HOURLY RATE: $38.01

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Communicates effectively, works independently or in a group.
  • Complies with craft and shipyard safety and environmental measures.
  • Properly cares for and safely uses hand and power tools and all company property.
  • According to manufacturers’ specifications, disassembles and inspects for wear, damage and possible malfunction of ships mechanical equipment aboard vessel and in shop, including gas, diesel, and steam engines, electrical motors and accessories including valving, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.
  • Under supervision, removes and installs ship’s propellers and shafts, using air and electrical chainfalls and various other equipment.
  • Diesel engine theory and repairs.
  • Basic repair of evaporators.
  • Basic math skills (add, subtract, divide, multiply).
  • Read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
  • Perform percentage, metric, decimal, fraction and decimal conversions for measurements.
  • Propulsion and steering system basics including propellers and rudders.
  • Various types of pumps and mechanical shaft seals.
  • Steam systems; knowledge of boilers and turbines is a plus.
  • Shipboard machinery, including but not limited to cranes, davits, winches, and valves of all types.
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
  • Shipboard systems including condensers, heat exchangers, fuel and lube oil, and cooling.
  • Incumbent performs similar work in all areas of the Yard as the need arises.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Communicates effectively, works independently or in a group.
  • Basic math skills (add, subtract, divide, multiply).
  • Read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
  • Perform percentage, metric, decimal, fraction and decimal conversions for measurements.
  • Pumps – types and mechanical seals.
  • Steam systems.
  • Blowers, winches, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
  • Shipboard systems including condensers, heat exchangers, fuel and lube oil, and cooling.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school or GED or equivalent combination of 6‑10 years of education and directly applicable work and/or proven skills in the trade.

JOURNEY LEVEL 1 SHIP REPAIR

Some knowledge of several skills with more advanced knowledge of 1 primary skill and possess at least 1 certification (hours in skilled trade & demonstrated proficiency). Requires general supervision during performance of primary skill but is able to perform job duties of A‑1 through A‑3 with little or no supervision.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS
  • Four‑hour fire watch certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • HAZWOPER‑First Responder Awareness Level
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Sitting, standing, walking, crouching, kneeling/crawling, stooping, twisting, climbing, balancing, leg/foot use (to repetitively operate machine controls), reaching, handling/grasping, fingering/feeling, pushing/pulling, and lifting/carrying.
  • Talking, hearing, vision, near acuity (clarity of vision at 20 inches or less), far acuity (clarity of vision at 20 feet or more), depth perception (three‑dimensional vision to judge distance/spatial relationships), color vision (if required to distinguish colors for job performance or safety), field of vision (if required to observe a large field of vision while keeping eye fixed on a given point for job performance or safety), and smell.
