Looking for a challenging, but rewarding, opportunity as an Industrial Maintenance Electrician. King County’s Wastewater Treatment Division has current openings at our West Point Treatment Plant. This position will be part of a combined Instrumentation and Electrical Team. You’ll have the opportunity to use and expand your technical skills while continuing to grow in the Electrical field. Work can be sometimes independent, or part of a team setting, as part of the overall Operations and Maintenance Team.

The role of an Industrial Maintenance Electrician for King County’s Wastewater Treatment Division includes performing a variety of highly skilled journey-level work by constructing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and wiring a wide variety of equipment and conducts preventive maintenance programs at a wastewater collection and treatment facility, including pumping and regulating stations. Works as Journey level electrician, independently or cooperatively with other electricians, other skilled trades and industrial plant operations staff.
Works safely in an industrial setting using appropriate PPE, using proper Lock-Out Tag Out procedures around electrical, mechanical, and environmental hazards, including working in Permit-Required Confined Spaces.
This role will be involved in a variety of large- and small-scale plant reliability improvement projects.
What You Will Be Doing- Perform maintenance and repairs on low (0-1000 volts), medium (1KV-72.5KV) and high (72.5KV-242KV) voltage switch gear, transformer, and distribution systems and power generation systems including standby emergency generators, co-generating systems, and ancillary equipment.
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and perform preventative maintenance on motor control centers, including associated control devices such as relays, timers, switches, and interlocks.
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair variable frequency and direct current drives including adjustment of speed profiles, troubleshooting and repairs to component levels and replacement when needed.
- Install, troubleshoot, reprogram, and modify programmable logic controllers. Design and modify control circuits and related control devices and equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance and repair of uninterruptible power supply equipment, including servicing and replacing batteries and other battery power sources.
- Perform thermal imaging of electrical equipment, interpret results, create reports, and repair problems.
- Schedule outages and coordinate activities. Perform proper electrical Lockout/Tagout to support maintenance efforts plant wide.
- Write material requests as needed to replace defective parts and to obtain additions to the spare parts inventory.
- Completion of an apprenticeship program or equivalent training which clearly demonstrates journey level status.
- Knowledge equivalent to three years of related journey-level experience in an industrial or manufacturing plant.
- Knowledge of federal electrical codes, electrical theory, and Instrument Society of America standards. Skill in applying industry codes and guidelines in the design, installation, and maintenance of plant electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of and experience in applying safety practices for electrical (low, medium, and high) voltages, mechanical and environmental hazards such as hazardous chemicals, gases, and confined spaces.
