Union Pay Rate
This is a union position represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). The starting hourly rate for this position is contractually set at $37.99.
- Because this is a union position, the benefits differ slightly from those listed in the “benefits package” link below in the following ways:
- New employees will receive 25 days of PTO.
- Employees will receive up to 2 floating holidays per calendar year (2 if they start January – June; 1 if they start July – December).
- 2 Volunteer Days per year, starting in the next calendar year.
- These positions are represented by ATU and the terms of the bargaining agreement apply.

Under general direction, implements the Division’s maintenance plan in assigned area of responsibility, including performing a variety of buildings and grounds inspection, maintenance and repair functions; participates in planning and coordination of the maintenance plan including supervision, oversight and evaluation of contractors; provides expertise in the repair and troubleshooting of equipment installed on Sound Transit properties; provides inspection and assessment of facilities being used by the public for safe operating conditions and coordinates with Sound Transit contractors on large scope projects;
responds to and is available to provide supervision and maintenance of emergency repairs 24/7; inspects systems equipment; ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; and performs technical and complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
The following duties are a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
- Conducts regular inspections of operating mechanical, electrical and equipment systems; troubleshoots and proposes solutions of maintenance and repair problems; performs some work pending skills, complexity and duration of assignments; monitors and makes necessary adjustments to operating equipment and controls; completes 360 work order requests initiated by users within Sound Transit and consultants; and complies with the after hours and on-call program to assure effective and reliable response to planned and unforeseen incidents and repairs.
- Provides for quality assurance by creating and implementing preventive maintenance programs and recommending improvements to existing programs on an on-going basis; maintains records of installation, maintenance and repair orders to track activities ensuring work is documented and on file; prepares status reports for projects; inspects contractor’s work and monitors to ensure that work is in compliance with specifications, standards and time lines;
develops and maintains effective building-specific maintenance and safety procedure manuals; responds to emergencies and call-outs as required; coordinates and monitors work of staff in areas of expertise to effect repairs and ensure the safety of customers; coordinates and supervises maintenance efforts with outside contractors and technicians; and ensures compliance with applicable…
