Mediacom Communications, operating since 1995 across 22 states, seeks a Broadband Specialist I (Field Technician) based in Clinton, Graceville, Wheaton, and Morris. The role focuses on installing and maintaining cable television and broadband services for residential customers.
Position OverviewAs a Broadband Specialist I, you will primarily handle new installations and related service adjustments in customer homes. Responsibilities include driving the company van, setting up equipment, troubleshooting, and collecting payments.
Schedule:
Monday‑Friday, 8am–5pm with overtime and on‑call duties as needed.

- Complete new drop installations (exterior and interior) from tap to antenna terminals in single and multi‑unit dwellings, including pre‑wired units
- Perform new connects, reconnects, requested and non‑pay disconnects; add outlets; install and/or remove converters; upgrade and downgrade service
- Analyze picture quality and judge acceptability after installation
- Use connectors, fasteners, hand tools, and power tools as required
- Complete appropriate paperwork as prescribed by system management
- Read signal levels using a field strength meter; adjust levels as needed; install connectors on different drop cable types and maintain clearances; install tap‑off devices
- Climb poles with proper equipment—safety belt, safety strap, and climbers—alongside ladders or other structures as needed
- Lift and carry loads up to 100lb (including line ladder); work within confined areas such as crawl spaces
- Use a VOM or DMM to check for “open” or “short” online as well as AC and DC voltages
- Interpret drop system layouts from blueprints
- Inform customers of FCC rules and company policies as they pertain to customers
- Drive company vehicles and maintain bucket trucks
- Generate additional company revenue through effective sales techniques, offering information about product options, sales campaigns, and promotions
- Perform other duties such as cleanup, salvage of wrecked materials, and general assistance to other employees as directed
- No experience required
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record required
- General mechanical and consumer device knowledge
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with customers and coworkers
- Ability to work in high or tight spaces
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and at various heights
- Adaptability to flexible work hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required
