Job Title: Exhibitions Supervisor

Reports to: Exhibitions Manager

Department: Exhibit Services

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, 5 days per week. Some travel may be required to support traveling exhibits.

Position Summary

The MOPOP Exhibitions Supervisor is a capable leader with deep technical experience, capable of both mentoring other fabricators as well as performing the work itself. This role will report directly to the Exhibitions Manager, supporting fabrication floor oversight, development of the team, and facilitation of successful exhibition fabrication. A highly collaborative position, the Exhibitions Supervisor will partner with teams across the organization and act as a bridge between the fabrication team and stakeholders in Curatorial, Collections, Museum Technology, A/V Operations, Finance, and other departments.

This position operates onsite full time and occasionally may travel to support traveling exhibitions.

Essential

Job Duties
  • Directly supervise fabrication team, fostering an environment for team and individual collaboration, fulfillment, and productivity
  • Perform carpentry, metalwork, wiring or light mechanical work, painting, finishing and sewing as required.
  • Partner with Curatorial, Collections, Museum Technology, A/V Operations, Finance, and Facilities Teams to facilitate exhibits build processes and final execution of exhibits
  • Co‑create exhibit development calendar and timelines with Exhibitions Manager and provide finalized information to team in a timely manner
  • Create documentation for all fabrication decisions and circulate materials and information to all members of the team in a timely manner
  • Partner with Senior Fabricator to develop drawing sets for fabrication of exhibit elements
  • Work directly in the shop and galleries with the Exhibits Team to fabricate, install, and de‑install exhibits, as needed
  • Conduct regular shop safety checks
  • Responsible for procurement and ordering of supplies and materials for the Exhibits Department in collaboration with fabrication team and with approval from Exhibition Manager
  • Document existing casework and exhibit components to ensure long‑term maintenance and replacement
  • Assistance Exhibition Manager with traveling exhibits as needed
  • Unload trucks, paint walls, assemble exhibit components, and coordinate with others through the installation process.
  • Follow lighting layouts, installing light fixtures & focus lighting for new exhibits. Ensuring that the space meets ADA and state lighting requirements.
  • Provide a high‑quality experience for MOPOP’s visitors in each of the exhibit galleries through the routine maintenance of lighting, repairs to casework, and theatrical elements in each of the galleries.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong design and fabrication knowledge
  • 4+ years of experience in a fabrication role in a museum, art gallery, or similar
  • 2+ years of experience managing a team or department
  • Bachelors Degree in Industrial Design or relevant trade school equivalent, Master’s Preferred
  • Project management experience, experience with Airtable and Wrike a plus
  • Adobe Creative Suite experience preferred
  • 3D design software experience, Rhino and Sketchup preferred
  • Proven ability to build rapport at all organizational levels
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a fabrication shop in the arts and culture industry
