About the Role

The AV Field Engineer is responsible for verifying, testing, and fine‑tuning commercial Audio-Visual systems through all project stages—from rack build to client handover. This role ensures that each AV system installed by Cochran meets design intent, performance specifications, and AVIXA standards for functionality and reliability. The ideal candidate combines technical precision with field awareness—bridging installation, engineering, and client experience. You'll work closely with the Project Manager, Systems Engineer, and Field Technicians to commission, program, and validate integrated AV systems in conference rooms, training rooms, large‑format spaces, and networked environments.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform end‑to‑end testing, configuration, and commissioning of AV systems (audio, video, control, and network)
  • Verify system wiring, signal flow, and device configuration per schematics and design drawings
  • Load, test, and modify DSP and control programs (Q‑SYS, Biamp, Extron, Crestron, etc.)
  • Configure and validate IP-addressable devices, ensuring network compliance and stability
  • Conduct sound pressure level (SPL) testing, acoustic optimization, and video calibration
  • Collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during startup
  • Document test results, device configurations, and firmware versions for project closeout
  • Support on‑site end‑user training and provide technical assistance to PMs and service teams
  • Complete system verification checklists, punch lists, and client sign‑offs per Cochran QA/QC SOPs
  • Maintain and calibrate test equipment (laptops, analyzers, network tools).
  • Adhere to Cochran's safety standards and represent the company professionally on‑site
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Approach challenges with a solution‑driven mindset, resolving issues efficiently and proactively
  • Advance your technical skills through ongoing learning and exposure to evolving AV systems and technologies
  • Communicate with clarity and professionalism, both in writing and speech, while adapting to a variety of situations and audiences
  • Foster a collaborative team environment by contributing positively and helping build strong working relationships
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by responding promptly, courteously, and reliably to the needs of internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrate strong organizational abilities, effectively managing tasks, documentation, and timelines
  • Exhibit dependability and accountability, showing up consistently, following direction, and taking ownership of your role
We are looking for someone with the following competencies:
  • Minimum 3-5 years of hands‑on experience in commercial AV integration or commissioning
  • Familiarity with AVIXA standards and QA/QC commissioning workflows
  • Experience with control system and DSP platforms such as:
    Crestron, Q‑SYS, Biamp, Extron, Shure,…
