HOURLY RATE: $45.29

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

(This list is not intended to detail all aspects of the assigned work but is representative of the job’s overall responsibilities.)

  • Complies with craft and shipyard safety and environmental measures.
  • Removes miscellaneous duct work, sheeting, locker, furniture, etc., from various locations of vessels or shipyard sites and rebuilds and/or reinstalls by welding and fitting techniques.
  • Fabricates basic sheet metal projects to industrial customer specifications.
  • Visualizes a completed job from start to finish.
  • Uses blueprints in accomplishing work projects.
  • Performs basic layout (i.e., on center square to round, round elbow, funnel, etc.)
  • Fabricates duct work on and off the ship.
  • Removes and installs duct work.
  • Performs basic welding – stick and mig and tig
  • Recognizes materials (e.g., stainless steel, aluminum, etc.) and determines gauge.
  • Successfully completes sustained work at various heights, including, but not limited to 100 feet.
  • Uses a tape measure.
  • Works within a confined space, climbs ladders, and performs work in overhead positions.
  • Properly cares for and safely uses hand and power tools and all company property.
  • Performs assembly work associated with the sheet metal trade.
  • Installs duct work, galley equipment, ceiling panels, etc.
Supervisory Duties And Responsibilities
  • Directs daily activities of a crew of Sheet metal workers assigning work to effectively meet demanding production goals; creates a positive team working environment; provides guidance in the use of various machining techniques; counsels employees and provides corrective action as necessary.
  • Complies with craft and shipyard safety and environmental measures.
  • Reads and understands basic work specifications, blueprints and schematics.
  • Basic drawing and fabrication of sheet metal.
  • Working with project team to meet their needs
  • Communicating with layout department to have fittings sent to the plasma.
Knowledge

Skills And Abilities
  • Communicate effectively, work independently or in a group.
  • Ability to do basic math, i.e. add, subtract, divide and multiply.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
  • Ability to use basic geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to do use shop equipment – press, shear, hand break, roll, Pittsburgh, drill press, spot welder, etc.
Education And/Or Experience

High School diploma or GED preferred. 8 years relevant work experience in the sheet metal trade. Proven skills, work history and/or applicable education will be considered in lieu of work experience.

Certificates, Licenses And Registrations

Vigor will provide training and all Certificates needed.

Physical Demands
  • Sitting:
    Occasionally sits for 1 hour at a time, up to 8 hours per day, while welding. Sits on all types of surfaces. May adjust position.
  • Standing:
    Frequently stands while performing work at various tooling machines. May stand up to 2 hours uninterrupted, up to 8 hours per day. Stands on level or graded surfaces of concrete or steel.
