Opportunity Description

Seattle Central College is looking to hire two Maintenance Mechanic 2s in the Facilities Department.

Salary Range for this position is $55,512 to $72,816 annually

Opportunity is open until filled, first review of materials will begin September 14th, 2026.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor 3, the Maintenance Mechanic 2 will be responsible for performing a variety of skilled work in the operation, maintenance, repair, remodeling and construction of buildings, machinery, systems and equipment. This position will also assist HVAC technicians to complete tasks. This position utilizes a general knowledge of several related skill fields such as plumbing, electrical, welding, carpentry, and machinist work.

This position is Full-time non-permanent, not to exceed 18 months and with the possibility to transition into regular/permanent status, working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, primarily 8am to 4:30pm.

This position works 100% of the time on-site

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by WFSE.

Essential Functions What you will be working on:
  • Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on all types of electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and structural systems of buildings and utility distribution. Tasks encompass changing oil, repairing lights, replacing fan belts, changing or cleaning filters and lubricating components to ensure optimal performance.
  • Installs new HVAC systems or components according to specifications and industry standards, ensuring proper functionality and compliance with regulations.
  • Monitors safety, fire protection, and environmental control equipment to ensure the building systems and equipment are operating in a satisfactory condition; respond to service request and secure necessary assistance; take preventative and emergency action to control malfunctions.
  • Collaborates with other maintenance personnel to complete projects and tasks on time and within budget.
  • Assist in developing preliminary cost estimates for fabrication, installation, and repairs.
  • Operates hand tools, power tools and other shop equipment; performs welding and metal fabrication; fabricates materials and equipment.
  • Remodels and constructs facilities in accordance with project requirements; assists in the preparation of engineering data under the direction of an engineer.
  • Repairs windows, doors, screens, floors, floor coverings, and painted surfaces.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical connections, switches, circuits, electrical equipment, thermostats, and valves.
  • Adheres to safety protocols and guidelines at all times, including wearing protective equipment and following proper procedures for handling hazardous materials.
  • May drive service vehicles, load and unload materials and supplies, and operate heavy equipment, as needed.
  • Attend meetings and training, as needed.
