DSHS FTAA Background Check Quality Assurance Analyst (MA3)
The Background Check Central Unit (BCCU) supports programs across Washington State and multiple partner agencies, and this role plays a key part in ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance in all background check operations. As part of the Training and Quality Improvement Section, the Training Quality Assurance Analyst serves as a subject matter expert responsible for conducting quality assurance reviews, identifying trends, and providing feedback to support staff development.
In this role, you ll help maintain the Unit’s exceptional accuracy standards and directly strengthen the reliability and effectiveness of statewide background check processes.
Conduct comprehensive quality assurance reviews and determine when complex cases require legal or supervisory escalation
Analyze error trends to recommend improvements that strengthen accuracy and efficiency
Provide performance feedback, identify training needs, and support staff development and proficiency
- Apply advanced expertise in background check systems, policies, and regulations to ensure accurate background checks
Provide expert customer service and consultation to internal and external stakeholders
Collaborate with supervisor and lead to resolve operational or policy issues with unit-wide or statewide impact
Participate in system testing of the Background Check System
Support operations by performing background check processing and customer service tasks when needed
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, law, public health, health administration, or a related field AND three years of experience conducting research and analyzing policies, laws, rules, or regulations or a comparable combination of graduate education and experience.
Professional experience may substitute year for year for education.
Additional InformationMust accurately type a minimum of 40 words per minute. Applicants will be required to pass a typing skills test during the hiring process to verify this ability.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities- One year experience processing background checks and utilizing the DSHS Background Check System
- Two years of experience interpreting criminal history information including Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Rap Sheets
- Three years of experience accessing, extracting, interpreting, deciphering, maintaining and processing information accessed through Office of Administrative for the Courts Justice Information System, Department of Corrections Felony Offender Reporting System, Washington State Patrol WASIS, Department of Health professional licensing, DSHS Background Check System or state licensing and enforcement databases in a governmental regulatory, licensing or enforcement agency or setting
Experience providing performance feedback and writing clear work instructions
Strong communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent judgment skills
Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and in researching and organizing data for decision-making
Ability to interpret and apply laws, policies, and procedures while maintaining professionalism with staff and the public
Prior experience as a Forms and Records Analyst in the DSHS Background Check Central Unit preferred
