Position: Victim Advocate (2) (Internal Applicants Only)

Internal Applicants Only:
This position is open only to current employees of the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Applicants must serve and pass their six-month probation period in their current position in order to be eligible to apply.

Summary

Provide direct advocacy to victims of crime, ensuring timely, victim-centered support, leveraging cross-unit coordination, and facilitating crisis intervention, case management, and court representation.

Job Details

Supervisor: Wendy Ross

Salary: Range $38.88 (step one) to $49.28 (step ten) hourly*.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, core hours 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; alternative schedule subject to supervisor’s approval.

Work Location: In-person/telecommuting:
King County Courthouse, 516 3rd Ave, Seattle, WA 98104 (1 position);
Maleng Regional Justice Center, 401 4th Ave N, Kent, WA 98032 (1 position).

Job Duties
  • Provide direct advocacy to victims, including reassignment based on caseload and community need.
  • Deliver flexible, cross-unit advocacy to ensure timely, victim-centered support.
  • Notify and engage with victims upon filing and through case disposition; provide regular updates and facilitate engagement during critical stages.
  • Communicate legal rights, safety options, and available resources; assist with enforcement of victim rights.
  • Assess eligibility and assist victims in filing Crime Victim Compensation claims.
  • Deploy crisis intervention, de‑escalation, case management, and advocacy techniques.
  • Assess victim needs and connect survivors to appropriate community services.
  • Develop coordinated safety plans with victims.
  • Utilize PAO facility dogs per policy to provide comfort and support.
  • Build relationships with Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys, Case Development Specialists, Paralegals, Law Enforcement, and other partners.
  • Assist victims in filing civil protection orders, including drafting documents and declarations.
  • Attend trials and hearings as necessary; prepare victims for testimony and advocate on their behalf.
  • Provide warm handoffs and referrals to community-based organizations.
  • Conduct outreach to foster partnerships with community organizations and address survivor-identified needs.
  • Participate in trainings and community events related to victimization impacts.
  • Engage in Race, Equity and Social Justice practices in daily work.
  • Maintain accurate data entry and service documentation in the PAO case management system (PBK).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, as business needs evolve.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
  • Demonstrated expertise in victim advocacy and the criminal justice system.
  • Experience responding to victims of crimes strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals in crisis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; clear and professional communication with victims, partners, and in court.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and services available to victims of crime.
  • Ability to work effectively within and across systems (law enforcement, courts, prosecutors, community agencies).
  • Experience working with diverse populations and commitment to culturally responsive advocacy.
  • Exhibit sound judgment, initiative, and independence while functioning as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills to identify procedural and policy improvements.
  • Experience managing high‑volume, sensitive caseloads.
  • Maintain positive, professional relationships with colleagues, management, attorneys, court personnel, law enforcement, community providers, and the public.
  • Commitment to equity and social justice; willingness to engage in equity work, training, and discussions.
  • Candidates with experience serving diverse survivors strongly encouraged.
Desired Qualifications (but not required)

Potential eligibility for bilingual premium pay of $1 per hour for all hours worked. Desired languages include Spanish, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin, Shanghai, Other), Dari, Russian, and/or Vietnamese. Applicants must demonstrate sufficient language proficiency.
