Job Definition

Service Coordinator Supervisor – oversees operations of The Gateway, an emergency shelter for homeless individuals and crisis clients.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain order, enforce agency policies, and manage communication.
  • Make critical decisions in crisis situations (e.g., calling police).
  • Orient and train new staff.
  • Ensure client registration, service documentation, and activity logging during shifts.
  • Conduct and document supervision, performance evaluations, and on‑call duties.
  • Coordinate client assessment, referrals, and program activities.
  • Brief staff on significant occurrences, client needs, and staffing assignments.
  • Oversee shift meal service preparation, organization, serving, and cleanup.
  • Manage volunteer recruitment, supervision, and support.
  • Maintain continuous shelter coverage and support coordination between shifts, off‑site locations, and DESC programs.
  • Participate in staff meetings and in‑service training.
  • Perform other assigned duties as required.
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of human service, social services, or customer service experience with adults facing homelessness, economic disadvantage, mental illness, and/or substance use disorder, or 1 year of highly relevant experience (incl. DESC work).
  • Personal lived experience may substitute for some work requirements.
  • Demonstrated de‑escalation ability.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of supervisory experience.
  • One year of experience in a DESC setting.
Physical Demands

Requires sitting for long periods, walking frequently, rapid movement during de‑escalation, proficient hearing, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
