About this Position

Shift: Swing (3:00pm - 1:30am). Days off:
Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Shift differential: $0.50 per hour.

DESC is a national leader in addressing homelessness. It operates multiple shelter and housing programs, supportive housing, and behavioral health services in King County.

Mobile Rapid Response Crisis Team (MRRCT)

MRRCT, also known as “Meerkat,” provides mobile crisis response throughout Seattle, addressing imminent and emergent needs of community members in crisis.

Job Definition

Each Crisis Outreach Shift Supervisor ensures their team’s timely, effective, and coordinated response to field dispatches from Crisis Connections. Supervisors provide real‑time on‑ground supervision, coaching, and guidance; implement documentation standards; enforce DESC policies; manage performance; and ensure ongoing training.

Supervisors may also provide clinical and psychosocial assessments in the field, determining least restrictive alternatives to involuntary treatment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Understand MRRCT expectations as described in King County’s Provider Manual.
  • Oversee maintenance of employee files and records for program compliance.
  • Co‑lead day‑to‑day operations of assigned shift.
  • Dispatch to outreaches as needed.
  • Co‑host and participate in all required team meetings.
  • Provide 1:1 supervision of supervises at least twice a month.
  • Coordinate shift schedule and adjust due to staff call‑outs and call volume.
  • Manage workforce scheduling and PTO requests.
  • Monitor vehicle conditions and safety policies with Project Manager.
  • Maintain knowledge of DESC policies and procedures.
  • Provide administrative and clinical supervision of team members, including performance evaluations.
  • Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreement for unioned staff.
  • Provide clinical consultation on psychiatric, substance use, and housing needs.
  • Teach and promote DESC core values, crisis intervention, de‑escalation skills, and homelessness fundamentals.
  • Help staff build crisis outreach proficiency and documentation skills.
  • Help staff develop conflict resolution skills and feedback processes.
  • Participate in hiring to maintain staffing across shifts.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Eligible for a Licensed AAC credential or another credential that meets RCW 71.05.020 for independent mental health assessments.
  • At least one year of community‑based behavioral health service experience.
  • Experience with adults experiencing homelessness, mental illness, and/or substance use disorders.
  • Current Washington State driver’s license and insurable driving record.
  • Completion of DESC Crisis Response and Prevention training and 8‑hour CIT.
  • Must pass a Washington State criminal background check.
  • Familiar with Recovery Principles, Crisis Intervention and Stabilization, Integrated Treatment of Co‑occurring Disorders, Intensive Case Management, Illness Management, and evidence‑based best practices.
  • Knowledge of Harm Reduction strategies.
  • Strong working knowledge of DSM‑V.
  • Ability to assess and respond to mental health or chemical dependency crises calmly and effectively.
  • Willingness to understand each client’s unique circumstances and incorporate them into crisis response.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and ability to cover on‑call duties.
  • Willing to provide community outreach anywhere in King County.
  • Familiar with King County crisis response system and methods of access.
  • Ability to communicate and supervise a diverse staff.
  • Ability to work with clients exhibiting a wide range of challenging behaviors.
  • Commitment to cooperation, continuity across programs, and respect for clients.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensed Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Washington.
