About the Role
Marketplace Logistics serves as the intelligence engine behind Uber's delivery network. As the company's decision‑making core, we enable seamless movement from point A to point B for all deliveries—spanning Uber Eats, Grocery, Retail, and Packages. We orchestrate the logic for dispatching, intelligent order batching, delivery time prediction, and optimizing pickup and delivery windows. We constantly balance the trade‑offs between timeliness and cost to build the most efficient experiences for our users.
Within the Marketplace Logistics organization, the Marketplace Simulation Team builds the systems for high‑fidelity simulation of the Uber Marketplace. Our work mirrors the complex dynamics of our network, providing the critical validation layer for the algorithms that drive the business. This role offers exposure to the most critical services in the Uber stack, solving problems that range from scaling infrastructure to building machine learning models that accurately represent participant behaviors.
WhatYou'll Do
- Provide technical leadership to a passionate, experienced, and diverse engineering team
- Work with the team and partners to define the broader architecture for the Marketplace Matching Simulation team
- See the big picture and identify inefficiencies and opportunities for meaningful improvements across that Logistics Matching Platform and Uber as a whole.
- Drive alignment between teams on architecture and responsibility delineation between platforms and product services.
- Raise the bar on engineering best practices across your org to produce best in class code, and effective documentation, testing, and monitoring.
- 4+ years experience as engineering manager
- 7+ years experience in product engineering, designing and coding
- Strong problem‑solving skills, with expertise in algorithms, data structures, optimizations and data analysis
- BS or MS in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience
- Passion for designing and building hyper‑scale distributed systems
- Resilience, determination, ownership mindset, and a keen appetite for collaborative efforts
- Ability to execute and drive product roadmap
- Proven track record delivering business impact
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Managed teams sized 5 - 10 people
- Experience working in Marketplace or B2B companies
- Experience in product ionizing machine learning or deep learning models in production
- Proficiency in batch and real‑time data pipelines
For Seattle, WA-based roles:
The base salary range for this role is USD $232,000 per year – USD $258,000 per year. You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of compensation. All full‑time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan.
