Are you ready to lead a transformational initiative in infrastructure hosting? We are seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to guide our team through a strategic pivot from operating our legacy hosting product to owning the testing and assembly of foundational infrastructure constructs for Amazon Stores. In this role, you will lead the deprecation of HEX and Honeycomb systems while developing innovative Cloud Development Kit (CDK) constructs that form the foundation of Stores' infrastructure.
This unique opportunity combines technical leadership with strategic vision as we re‑imagine how thousands of services across Amazon are hosted.
You will influence compute infrastructure decisions that impact thousands of services, working closely with partners to develop sustainable infrastructure solutions that emphasize operational excellence, cost efficiency, and ease of use. If you thrive on technical challenges with organizational‑wide impact and enjoy leading teams through strategic transformations, this position offers the perfect blend of technical depth and business strategy.
Key job responsibilities- Lead the strategic transition from existing HEX and Honeycomb hosting products to AWS‑native solutions while maintaining operational excellence and obsessing about customers.
- Develop and implement infrastructure CDK constructs that will serve as the foundation for Stores compute platform, collaborating with partners to ensure they meet organizational requirements.
- Define the technical vision and architecture for the team's evolution, balancing immediate needs with long‑term strategic goals.
- Build and nurture a high‑performing engineering team through effective hiring, mentoring, and career development while creating an inclusive environment that promotes innovation.
- Establish mechanisms to measure and improve operational excellence, creating audit mechanisms and metrics that enable you to explain your team's performance against goals.
Your day starts with a stand‑up meeting where you synchronize with your development team on the HEX customer migration progress and address any operational issues. Later, you might meet with stakeholders from across Stores to gather requirements for the new CDK constructs, ensuring they meet diverse needs while maintaining architectural integrity. You'll review infrastructure design proposals from your engineers, providing guidance on technical approaches that balance immediate needs with long‑term maintainability.
Throughout the day, you'll balance tactical migration work with strategic planning for your team's future as an infrastructure OEM provider.
The HEX team currently owns and operates three major infrastructure hosting products that support nearly 3,500 services across Amazon. We're in an exciting transition phase, moving our legacy compute platform to owning the testing and assembly of foundational infrastructure CDK definitions. This transformation allows us to leverage AWS‑native solutions while continuing to provide specialized infrastructure expertise that meets Amazon's unique requirements.
As we evolve, we're reimagining how our team can create the most value through infrastructure CDK constructs that simplify and standardize compute deployments. Our work directly influences the foundation upon which critical Stores services are built, allowing us to have broad impact across the organization while focusing on infrastructure excellence.
