About the RoleThe Core Transfer Experience team owns the systems and product surfaces that power frictionless cross‑border transfers for millions of Remitly customers. The team balances a dual focus: delivering a direct customer experience and building a foundational platform that regional and product teams rely on. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be a technical leader who guides the end‑to‑end customer journey, shapes architecture, and raises engineering standards across multiple teams.
Key Responsibilities- Advise on domain‑level strategic planning and roadmap prioritization for the Core Transfer Experience.
- Lead team‑level design reviews and large‑scale initiatives, ensuring solutions span the right layers of the customer experience.
- Own architecture and delivery of both customer‑facing transfer experiences and foundational platform capabilities.
- Plan and sequence work across both dimensions, balancing launch velocity with platform extensibility and reliability.
- Contribute directly to the codebase through hands‑on analysis, code reviews, and meaningful implementation.
- Advance engineering excellence in reliability, observability, security, and quality, and automate team processes.
- Champion effective use of AI tools and guide the team in applying them as a force multiplier.
- Mentor and grow engineers, leading training modules and knowledge transfer sessions.
- Represent Remitly’s cultural values in interviews and hiring, and build cross‑functional relationships across engineering, product, design, analytics, and operations.
- Ensure operational excellence by optimizing cost‑utilization of computing resources, evaluating external technologies, and resolving root causes of architectural deficiencies.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3 years in a staff‑level role.
- Demonstrated experience building and shipping consumer‑facing products at scale.
- Technical breadth across the customer experience stack and ownership of decisions across multiple layers.
- Advanced expertise in one or more languages (Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, Type Script, or similar).
- Proven experience designing and operating distributed systems at scale, strong fundamentals in system design, data modeling, and performance optimization.
- Experience leading design reviews, managing dependencies, estimating timelines, and interacting with stakeholders independently.
- Expertise in observability, reliability engineering, and ensuring high availability in mission‑critical production systems.
- Active use of AI tools in engineering practice and guidance for team adoption.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Base salary range: $208,000–$260,000 (U.S.). Equity is part of the total compensation plan. Additional medical benefits and financial benefits may be discussed during the hiring process.
