Senior Software Engineer

Digital Ocean is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their platform services team responsible for designing, building, and operating core cloud infrastructure. In this role, you will provide technical leadership across distributed systems, drive large cross‑functional projects from inception to production, and mentor engineers while raising the technical bar across the organization.

• Own a product or technical area by providing technical leadership across design, development, and delivery
• Build scalable, distributed platform services, libraries, tools, and APIs in Go, Python, and/or Type Script/React
• Drive large cross-functional projects independently from planning through to launch and maintenance
• Develop scripts, tools, and automation solutions to streamline processes, enhance system performance, and improve operational efficiency
• Mentor and support the growth of engineers at different levels in their careers
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues, implement solutions, and optimize systems

• 5–7+ years of hands‑on experience building large‑scale, distributed systems in a fast‑paced, high‑growth tech environment
• Proven track record of building complex distributed systems and making data‑driven cost‑performance tradeoffs
• Proficiency in one or more of:
  Go, Python, Type Script, Graph
  
  QL, or Bash
• Extensive experience working with Linux‑based environments and containerization technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, KVM, and LXC
• Strong operational excellence mindset and proven ability to build reliable and scalable products
• Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively across multiple teams and stakeholders

• Strong interest in development platforms, AI/ML workflows, GenAI, CI/CD, or infrastructure
• Past experience mentoring and investing in the development of engineers
• Strong product thinking skills to influence roadmap and prioritization

Base salary range $167,000–$209,000 for Senior Software Engineer II role; $191,000–$239,000 for Staff Software Engineer role. Eligible for bonus based on company and individual performance, equity compensation including grants upon hire and Employee Stock Purchase Program participation.
