We’re looking for a senior embedded software engineer to maintain and advance the C‑based control systems inside our autonomous ocean-profiling floats.

We are a robotics company that designs and builds autonomous vehicles used to collect long‑term environmental data supporting scientific and climate research. The company operates with a strong engineering culture and a lean, senior‑heavy team building both new research platforms and systems deployed for extended periods in demanding, remote environments.

• Backed by a larger international ocean technology group while operating with full day‑to‑day autonomy.
• A genuine mix of active R&D (new floats, new sensors) and a mature, deployed product line, so the work never goes stale.
• Rare hands‑on technical exposure: direct lab access to hardware and PCBs, not a laptop‑only role.
• Direct, daily access to engineering leadership on a flat, five‑person engineering team.
• Long‑term upside to expand beyond core software into adjacent engineering disciplines over time.

This is a senior, hands‑on embedded software role supporting autonomous, buoyancy‑driven ocean floats deployed permanently 'll split time between maintaining existing float control software and driving new R&D development, working directly with hardware on the bench to build, test, and refine bare‑metal C code running on ARM microcontrollers. Back filling a recently departed senior engineer, this role also carries ownership of the decoder software that supports customer data delivery.

• Senior‑level experience writing embedded C for resource‑constrained, low‑memory systems.
• Direct experience programming ARM microcontrollers.
• Working knowledge of Linux‑based embedded systems (required).
• Bare‑metal/boot loader‑level development experience (no OS) strongly preferred.
• Comfortable working at the software‑hardware boundary using schematics, datasheets, and lab equipment.
• Java experience (used on shore‑side software).

• Background in marine robotics, autonomous vehicles, or other harsh‑environment engineering.
