Position: Software Dev Engineer 2, AWS EKS

Description

Amazon Web Services is looking for Software Development Engineers to join our growing team. The Amazon Elastic Container Services for Kubernetes (EKS) team focuses on providing a managed Kubernetes service that makes it easy for customers to use Kubernetes without needing to become experts in provisioning and operating it. EKS manages time‑consuming administrative tasks like setting up, operating, scaling, and updating Kubernetes, freeing customers to focus on their applications.

Inclusive

Team Culture

Here at AWS, we embrace our differences and are committed to fostering a culture of inclusion. We have ten employee‑led affinity groups, reaching 40,000 employees in over 190 chapters worldwide, and we host annual and ongoing learning experiences, including CORE conferences. Amazon’s culture of inclusion is reinforced through its 14 Leadership Principles, which remind team members to seek diverse perspectives, learn and be curious, and earn trust.

Work/Life

Balance

Our team values work‑life balance and believes it’s about creating a flow that energizes both personal and professional life. Flexibility in working hours is offered, and we encourage everyone to find their own balance. This role involves on‑call responsibilities, typically one week every two months. We strive to keep on‑call interruptions to a minimum and resolve root causes quickly so that the same issue does not repeat.

Mentorship

& Career Growth

We support new team members with mentorship and a knowledge‑sharing culture. Senior members provide one‑on‑one mentoring and thorough, but kind, code reviews. Your career growth is a priority, and projects are chosen to help you develop into a well‑rounded engineer capable of taking on more complex tasks.

Key job responsibilities
  • Collaborate with experienced cross‑disciplinary Amazonians to conceive, design, and bring innovative products and services to market.
  • Design and build innovative technologies in a large distributed computing environment and help lead fundamental changes in the industry.
  • Design and code the right solutions, starting with broadly defined problems.
  • Work in an agile environment to deliver high‑quality software.
A day in the life

The challenges SDEs solve at Amazon are large and influence millions of customers, sellers, and products worldwide. We look for individuals who are passionate about creating new products, features, and services from scratch while managing ambiguity and the pace of a company where development cycles are measured in weeks, not years.

About The Team

This unique opportunity works on an open‑source project—Karpenter, a node autoscaler for Kubernetes. We participate in Kubernetes working groups and collaborate across companies, attending and presenting at Kube Con and working closely with EKS customers to solve real‑world scaling challenges.
