Job Overview

Join the In-Memory Datastore team at Amazon Elasti Cache, where we build a next‑generation, high-performance, distributed in-memory database platform that powers real‑time applications worldwide.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Design and build the next-generation in‑memory No

    SQL database platform.
  • Lead the development of large‑scale distributed in‑memory storage systems, primarily in Java and C/C++.
  • Develop and operate HTTP/REST services, asynchronous messaging, and event‑driven architectures that underpin the platform.
  • Build real‑time failure detection and auto‑remediation systems to recover node failures within seconds.
  • Drive horizontal and vertical scaling, management/monitoring plane workflows, fault tolerance mechanisms, and backup/restore technologies.
  • Contribute to disaster recovery and prevention strategies to ensure high availability and durability.
  • Mentor and grow junior engineers, serving as a technical leader.
  • Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables with autonomy and accountability.
Day in the Life
  • Write and review production‑quality code in Java or C/C++ for distributed storage components.
  • Participate in design reviews and architecture discussions on consistency, availability, and partition tolerance.
  • Collaborate with peers to debug complex distributed systems and perform root cause analysis.
  • Work closely with the monitoring plane and operations team to improve observability and reduce mean time to recovery.
  • Engage with product and customer service teams to translate real‑world use cases into platform capabilities.
  • Mentor junior engineers through code reviews and pairing sessions.
  • Participate in on‑call rotations and drive improvements to system reliability and operational tooling.

The In‑Memory Storage Platform team is a collaborative, intellectually curious group that values technical depth, ownership, and a bias for action. The team focuses on solving hard distributed systems problems and actively contributes to the broader No

SQL ecosystem.

Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture experience, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
  • 1+ year of software development engineer or related occupational experience.
  • 1+ year of designing and developing large‑scale, multi‑tiered, multi‑threaded, embedded or distributed software applications using C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
  • 1+ year of Object‑Oriented Design experience.
  • Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or equivalent).
Compensation & Benefits

The base salary range for this position is USD  –  annually. Compensation includes sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Benefits include health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, and various life plans), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
