Software Development Engineer, Data Center Host Monitoring

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that keep our customers’ cloud services running. We tackle complex problems with many variables in the supply chain and are looking for talented people to help us solve them.

• Design, build, and operate distributed services that are reliable, scalable, and maintainable at global scale
• Own your services end‑to‑end—from architecture and implementation through deployment and production operations
• Identify and drive improvements to system reliability, latency, and operational posture
• Contribute to team engineering standards, code reviews, and technical direction
• Mentor junior engineers and help foster a culture of high engineering quality

Every server in every AWS data center continuously generates signals—thermal readings, reachability status, power metrics—and our team’s job is to collect, process, and act on this data in real time. We build and operate the monitoring systems that give data center operations teams visibility into the health of AWS’s global infrastructure and power the alerting systems that notify staff when something needs attention.

As an SDE on this team, you will own and evolve distributed services spanning availability monitoring, hardware telemetry pipelines, anomaly detection, and alarming—the first line of detection when something goes wrong in a data center. Your customers are internal: the engineers and operators who work on the physical infrastructure daily. This role offers tight feedback loops, fast iteration, and the chance to work closely with the people most affected by the systems you build.

• 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• 1+ year of designing and developing large‑scale, multi‑tiered, multi‑threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using C#, C++, Java, or Perl
• Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent
