Software Engineer, ECNitro; AWS

Overview

Do you want to shape the future of virtualized (SDN) networking in one of the world’s largest public clouds? The Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) Nitro Dataplane team owns the packet pipeline that runs beneath all of our customers’ EC2 VPC instances, adding features such as firewalls (security groups), routing, billing and monitoring. Our vision is to combine the performance of bare‑metal networking while preserving all the benefits of the cloud, delivering features that are not possible on bare metal and enabling true software‑defined networking for our customers worldwide.

• Lead a small engineering team, mentor junior engineers, and enforce sound development practices.
• Be highly hands‑on; collaborate with engineering to manage day‑to‑day development activities, leading architecture decisions, design reviews, code reviews and implementation.
• Maintain current technical knowledge, stay alert for new technologies, and work with management and the development team to bring those technologies to life.
• Communicate with users, other technical teams, and senior management to gather requirements, describe product features, and shape product strategy.

• 3+ years of professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of design or architecture experience for new and existing systems.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing and operations.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
• Proficiency in the design and analysis of algorithms and data structures.
• In‑depth knowledge of TCP/IP.
• Kernel or embedded development, particularly Linux kernel.
• Proficiency with scripting languages such as Ruby, Python or Rust.
• Strong knowledge of core computer science fundamentals, object‑oriented design, and complexity analysis.
• Experience working with modern programming languages such as C, C++, Rust, Python or Perl.
• Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through its final launch.
• Meets or exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles and functional/technical depth requirements for this role.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
