AI Infrastructure Engineer Intern (Compute Efficiency & Scheduling) - 2027 Summer

Responsibilities

We decide how Byte Dance's massive fleet of computers gets used — turning hundreds of clusters and millions of daily workloads (microservices, big data, and large AI/LLM jobs) into a system that's highly efficient, reliable, and increasingly self-managing, powered by our own intelligent scheduling platform Godel (open-sourced to the community). Our mission: get the most value out of every unit of computing power, at a scale few places in the world can offer, and let AI increasingly help run the infrastructure.

We are looking for talented individuals to join us for an internship. Our internship program offers students hands-on experience, industry exposure, and opportunities to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges while building a strong foundation for personal and professional growth. Interns will gain practical experience, explore potential career paths, and participate in social events, learning programs, and development workshops alongside industry professionals.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Currently pursuing an Undergraduate/ Master s in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• Able to commit to a 12-week internship during Summer 2027.
• Experience coding in Go, C++, Python, Java, or C#.

Preferred Qualifications

• Intent to return to your degree program after the internship.
• Strong fundamentals in systems, distributed computing, or software engineering — shown through internships, work, research, competitions, or projects.
• Curiosity about large-scale or AI/ML infrastructure; exposure to Linux, containers, or Kubernetes is a plus but not required.
• High creativity and quick problem-solving.

【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (Hourly) - Campus Intern

The hourly rate range for this position in the selected city is $42.75- $42.75.

Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Interns have day one access to health insurance, life insurance, wellbeing benefits and more. Interns also receive 10 paid holidays per year and paid sick time (56 hours if hired in first half of year, 40 if hired in second half of year). Interns who are not working 100% remote may also be eligible for housing allowance.
