At Nordstrom, the Foundation team supports the tools and data that enable salespeople across more than 350 stores to work productively.
We are seeking an Engineer 2 to join the Foundation team. This role is an excellent opportunity for a skilled full-stack engineer to develop systems that shape the future of modern eventing engineer will work across distributed systems and networks of devices, contributing to improved speed and accuracy of POS events, financial transactions, store-level applications, and POS systems.
Backend Development- Design, develop, and maintain microservices using Java 8+, Spring Boot, Kafka, SQL, and Kubernetes in the cloud.
- Build highly responsive and scalable web applications using React.js, JavaScript/Type Script, and CSS.
- Consider how code behaves in production, with a focus on maintainability, testability, and supportability.
- Lead solution design and prototyping while establishing technical standards.
- Implement telemetry and monitoring solutions to proactively identify and address issues.
- Participate in scheduled on-call support.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and mentor junior engineers.
- Deliver valuable features and address design or architectural deficiencies.
- Strong knowledge of Java 8+, Spring Boot, React.js, JavaScript/Type Script, CSS, Kafka, and SQL.
- Proficiency with Docker, Kubernetes, and Git.
- Experience with AWS, including RDS, ECS, EKS, and DynamoDB.
- Strong understanding of AWS multi-region architectures, high availability, and disaster recovery.
- AWS Route 53, Cloud Front, and Global Accelerator.
- Multi-region deployments and synchronization.
- Data consistency models, eventual consistency, and conflict resolution.
- Kafka and No
SQL databases.
- Strong understanding of design patterns and principles such as SOLID, CQRS, and eventual consistency.
- Experience designing for performance, scalability, and distributed architecture.
- Ability to model problem domains and anticipate future changes.
- Automation of testing, deployment, and security scanning.
- Experience building and optimizing CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong understanding of Test-Driven Development (TDD) and the TDD cycle.
- Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
- Multiple operating systems and scripting techniques.
- Strong database knowledge and understanding of different data-storage paradigms.
- Commitment to secure coding by default.
- Experience with security tools and practices, including security probes and server hardening.
- Strong leadership in group discussions, design sessions, and presentations.
- Proven ability to mentor and develop team members.
- Excellent collaboration skills and ability to work effectively with Product Owners.
- Innovative mindset with the ability to evaluate and introduce new tools and methodologies.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
