About Us

We are a med-tech company leveraging cutting-edge AI to build scalable, regulatory-grade tools for video-based motor assessments. As part of our growing technical team, we’re looking for a highly capable and motivated Backend Developer to design, build, and maintain our cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines. You’ll play a key role in ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of our systems that power AI-driven clinical research and digital health innovation.

Role

overview

We are looking for a Backend Developer (to work with our Platform Lead) on a healthcare SaaS platform handling sensitive clinical data and ePHI.

This is a hands-on startup role covering backend development, production support, deployments, build pipelines, release processes, cloud infrastructure and security. The right person will be comfortable writing production code and helping operate the systems they build.

Key responsibilities
  • Build, maintain and support backend services using mostly Type Script, NestJS and TypeORM.
  • Develop REST APIs and service-based backend components.
  • Work with PostgreSQL, including schema design, migrations, query performance and data integrity.
  • Support production systems, including monitoring, troubleshooting, incident response and root-cause analysis.
  • Maintain and improve Git Hub-based CI/CD pipelines, deployment workflows and backend release processes.
  • Work with Terraform and cloud infrastructure across AWS and/or GCP.
  • Support secure configuration, secrets management, access control, audit logging and least-privilege practices.
  • Work with authentication and authorisation systems, including Keycloak.
  • Write clean, maintainable, tested and production-ready code.
  • Document backend systems, deployment procedures and operational processes where needed.
Required experience
  • At least 5 years of commercial software development experience.
  • Production experience with Typescript, NestJS (or similar); other enterprise backend framework experience will also be considered.
  • Experience with TypeORM or similar ORM/data-access approaches.
  • Strong production PostgreSQL experience.
  • Experience building and supporting SaaS platforms or production backend services.
  • Experience designing and maintaining REST APIs.
  • Practical experience with Git Hub, CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
  • Hands-on experience supporting production systems.
  • Working knowledge of AWS and/or GCP.
  • Ability to work with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tooling.
  • Strong understanding of application security, authentication, authorisation and secure coding practices.
  • Experience working on systems where reliability, auditability and data protection are important.
Desirable experience
  • Experience with Keycloak, OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SSO, RBAC or FGA.
  • Experience working in healthcare, life sciences, finance or another regulated or security-sensitive SaaS environment.
  • Familiarity with ePHI, HIPAA, GDPR, ISO 27001 or similar compliance expectations.
  • Experience with observability tooling, logging, metrics and alerting.
  • Experience with automated testing, API testing or production readiness checks.
  • Experience supporting releases and production systems in a startup or small-company environment.
Personal attributes
  • Hands-on, pragmatic and comfortable taking responsibility for production systems.
  • Vocal about security, privacy and operational reliability.
  • Comfortable working in a small team without separate production support teams.
  • Calm and methodical when troubleshooting production issues.
  • Clear communicator who can work closely with product and engineering colleagues.
  • Willing to document, improve and stabilise systems as well as build new features.
What We Offer
  • Competitive compensation and benefits
  • Flexible and remote-friendly work environment
  • Opportunity to work on impactful problems in digital health
  • A fast-paced, supportive team culture focused on innovation and collaboration
