Trupanion is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer, Android, to help design, build, and support innovative mobile experiences that advance our mission of helping pets receive the veterinary care they need. As a member of a cross-functional product and engineering team, you will develop native Android applications, collaborate with business and technical stakeholders, and own solutions throughout their lifecycle, from requirements and design through production deployment and ongoing support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain native Android applications using Kotlin and modern Android development frameworks.
  • Partner closely with Product Managers, UX Designers, QA Engineers, and backend development teams to translate business objectives and customer needs into scalable technical solutions.
  • Own software solutions end-to-end, from understanding business requirements and technical design through implementation, production deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in architecture reviews and technical design discussions, contributing to application architecture, design standards, performance optimization, scalability, maintainability, and security best practices.
  • Apply secure-by-design principles during solution development, identifying and addressing security, privacy, data protection, and compliance considerations early in the software lifecycle.
  • Champion a shift-left approach to quality by proactively incorporating testing, validation, observability, and reliability considerations throughout the development process.
  • Author and maintain automated unit tests, developer functional tests, and other testing assets to ensure application reliability and support continuous delivery practices.
  • Collaborate with backend teams to validate integrations with internal insurance technology platforms, enterprise services, and third-party partner APIs.
  • Execute and support integration testing activities to ensure end-to-end functionality across mobile applications and dependent systems.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback that improves code quality, maintainability, security, and team knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, build automation, release management processes, and software development best practices.
  • Manage application deployment activities, including preparing, publishing, and maintaining releases within the Google Play Store ecosystem.
  • Monitor application health, performance, and operational metrics, proactively identifying and resolving issues before they impact customers.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and support root cause analysis, remediation efforts, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Participate in an on-call support rotation, partnering with engineering and operational teams to diagnose and resolve critical production incidents when necessary.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging Android technologies, frameworks, and development practices to improve platform capabilities and developer effectiveness.
  • This position offers the opportunity to build impactful mobile experiences while working collaboratively across product, design, and engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable solutions for Trupanion members and partners.
