The Bush School is in search of an individual to join our Athletic Department as the Girls Volleyball Varsity Head Coach. We are seeking a candidate who is able to support the school’s goals towards building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community. The Bush School athletic program works within the rules of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) and the Emerald Sound Conference to provide athletic opportunities and competition for students of all gender identities. While most sports are offered separately for boys and girls, the Athletic Department staff is committed to working collaboratively with each participant to determine options that best suit each student-athlete’s journey.
The Girls Volleyball Varsity Head Coach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the program, including planning and leading practices, coaching contests, and transporting the team to off‑campus sites in a school vehicle. In collaboration with the Athletics Department, the Head Coach will recruit, support, and evaluate assistant and lower‑level coaches, and establish the team schedule, non‑conference contests and tournaments. This position reports directly to the Athletic Director.
The season begins on Monday, August 24, 2026, and continues through mid‑November (depending on the team’s post‑season performance). Practices vary between time slots and are held Monday through Friday between 3:45 and 7:00 p.m. (no longer than two hours per day) at The Bush School.
In addition to the regular season dates listed above, the new Head Coach will have the opportunity to offer summer practices and lead a summer camp. Additional compensation is provided for these activities.
Key Responsibilities- Provide a positive, inclusive, safe, and challenging experience for participants
- Teach sport‑specific skills, strategies, training methods, and safety practices
- Communicate with athletic department staff effectively and promptly
- Communicate regularly with student‑athletes and families, both in person and in writing
- Attend meetings and trainings scheduled by the Athletic Director
- Attend meetings scheduled by the conference, district, and/or state association
- Handle student health forms with confidentiality, be aware of individual health concerns, and respond appropriately to medical needs
- Comply with all school, conference, and state policies and regulations
- Supervise and mentor assistant coaches
- Organize off‑season activities (e.g., pre‑season conditioning, summer training)
- Expert knowledge of given sport
- Coaching experience and certification preferred
- Capacity and desire to seek out and participate in ongoing professional development
- Ability and willingness to be a team player
- Satisfactory criminal background check that meets school standards
- Safe driving record that meets school standards
- Ability to work and connect with people
- Outstanding communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
- Enthusiasm to contribute, grow, and develop as a member of the Blazers Athletic Department Team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications
- Have a current Adult and Children CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification (or receive one soon after hire date)
- Meet the school’s standards when completing two separate background screenings
- Complete required coaching certifications (WIAA, Safe Sport, Vector)
