The Recreation Division eliminates barriers through responsive, exceptional recreation services. We operate over 50 recreation facilities (community centers, teen centers, pools, school-based learning centers, environmental learning centers, and boating and sailing centers) and provide opportunities for people to play, learn, and lead healthy, active lives. Our programs and events include fitness and athletics, licensed childcare and preschool, swimming and boating, youth development and job preparation, academic enrichment, and more -- including programs designed for older adults and people with disabilities, as well as grant and partnership programs designed and implemented with immigrant and refugee communities.
OutdoorActivation and Mobile Recreation (OAMR) Unit
In partnership with community groups, identify and support the wants and needs of their communities. Built on trust, community, engagement, and the desire to strengthen the health of your neighborhood’s population, OAMR uses interactive, educational, and fun activities to promote health and wellbeing.
- Recreation Leader:
Organizes, plans, implements, and leads Outdoor recreation activities and special events. Coordinates seasonal programs and special activities for recreational programs in Equity Zones. In various weather conditions. This position will rotate among several assigned programs designed for various Demographics including Toddle/Youth, Teens, Adults, Seniors, Intergenerational. - This position will Secure and maintain all materials and equipment for assigned programs; this position will supervise activities and monitor performance of volunteers, coaches, recreation attendants, and High School interns during these activities.
- Observes necessary precautions to secure the safety of recreation participants and spectators and renders routine first aid in cases of minor injury.
- Maintains such records as attendance, program activities, volunteer participation, and special events activities. Prepares weekly reports of all activities.
- Prepares promotional materials for the program such as brochures, flyers, and posters.
- Conducts community outreach, such as school events, social media, promotional flyer dissemination, and leveraging ‘word of mouth’ support of youth.
