The Fleet Coordinator & Mechanic is a hands‑on technical role within the Fleet & Facilities department, responsible for the inspection, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of Seattle Tree Care’s fleet of diesel trucks, gas vehicles, trailers, chippers, and specialty arborist equipment. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically motivated individual early in their career to grow their skills in a dynamic, real‑world fleet environment.
This role is critical to the safe and uninterrupted operation of the company’s production teams, and requires someone who brings strong initiative, sound mechanical judgment, and a genuine commitment to keeping the fleet safe, compliant, and performing at its best. The right person takes pride in their craft, manages their work with discipline and accuracy, and approaches every repair challenge with a solutions‑first mindset.
- Fleet Maintenance & Repair
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on diesel trucks, gas vehicles, trailers, chipper trucks, stump grinders, aerial lifts, and other heavy and specialty equipment
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues accurately and in a timely manner to minimize fleet downtime
- Conduct safety and compliance inspections on all assigned fleet assets; identify and correct issues proactively before they result in equipment failure or safety risk
- Perform pre‑and post‑repair test drives and equipment checks to verify repairs are complete and effective
- Ensure all work meets applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory standards at all times
- Operate company vehicles as needed to retrieve parts, transport equipment, or support fleet operations
- Records, Inventory & Shop Organization
- Maintain accurate repair logs, maintenance records, and parts inventory; ensure all records are complete and current
- Coordinate with the Director of Fleet & Facilities regarding repair priorities, scheduling, parts procurement, and fleet downtime
- Coordinate parts procurement efficiently to minimize equipment downtime
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment at all times; store tools, equipment, and parts properly after each use
- Identify and report facility maintenance needs or safety hazards to the Director of Fleet & Facilities promptly
- Follow all applicable safety protocols, environmental regulations, and waste disposal requirements in the shop
- Shop & Facilities Support
- Assist with equipment setup, shop organization, and general facility upkeep as needed
- Support the development and enforcement of fleet maintenance schedules and SOPs

- Required
- 1–2 years of experience in diesel mechanics, automotive repair, or heavy equipment maintenance
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License
- Ability to pass a background check
- Preferred
- Prior experience with fleet operations or maintenance in a commercial or industrial setting
- Experience maintaining arborist, landscaping, or construction equipment
- Welding and/or fabrication experience
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 lbs regularly (engine components, tires, equipment parts)
