Summary

In this unique role, you’ll be at the center of keeping Tacoma Narrows Airport and Thun Field both running safely, efficiently, and smoothly by coordinating both operations and maintenance activities. You’ll support airport operations through tenant coordination, project support, regulatory preparation, and collaboration with airport leadership and the Airport Advisory Commission. Additionally, you’ll perform a range of hands‑on airfield tasks such as inspecting and repairing lighting and signage, mowing, and ensuring the airfield environment remains safe, while overseeing larger or specialized maintenance needs through contractors and PPW divisions.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives on variety, problem-solving, and using their FAA knowledge and stakeholder skills to keep the busiest airport in Pierce County operating at its best.

Core Daily Responsibilities
  • Act as liaison with customers, FAA personnel, and the general public regarding airport operations.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities for airport operations.
  • Maintain and repair airport facilities and runway lighting system.
  • May oversee the operations of the airport fuel station and participate in stormwater testing.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to maintenance and operational activities.
  • Participate in the planning, development, and implementation of scheduled site expansion, renovations, or new construction.
  • Assist with the development and implementation, and maintain airport security policies, procedures, and guidelines according to local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations.
  • Collect and deposit hangar and tie‑down space rental and lease fees.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair concrete and asphalt floors, roads, parking lots, ramps, taxiways, and runways; apply a variety of materials to seal, coat, maintain, and patch said surfaces.
  • May perform facility maintenance and repair including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, masonry, welding or other fabrication, and other related maintenance and repair to standards and code requirements.
  • Operate and maintain all shop equipment.
  • Respond to and report airfield incidents and mishaps.
  • Install, maintain, and repair a variety of traffic and informational signs on buildings, roads, and aircraft movement areas.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and education is required.
  • Four years of airport maintenance or airport operations experience.
  • One year of supervisory or lead experience.
  • A resume and cover letter are required for this position.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
