Long-Term Substitute Transportation Mechanic

Onalaska School District is seeking a reliable and experienced Long-Term Substitute Transportation Mechanic to assist with the maintenance and repair of school district vehicles, including school buses. This is a year-round position working variable hours during the school year, with the potential for additional hours during the summer months.

• Assist with routine inspections and preventive maintenance of school buses and district vehicles
• Perform minor repairs under the direction of the lead mechanic or Transportation Supervisor
• Maintain accurate maintenance and inspection records
• Ensure compliance with Washington State Patrol and OSPI safety regulations
• Monitor vehicle condition and report safety issues promptly
• Maintain a clean and organized work area
• Support vehicle preparation for state inspections
• Perform minor repairs as needed or as directed by the Transportation Supervisor

Required:

• High school diploma or GED
• Basic mechanical knowledge and experience working with vehicles
• Valid Washington State driver’s license
• Ability to work independently and follow safety protocols
• Clear background check, driving record, and fingerprinting (required for school district employment)
• Experience working with diesel engines or large vehicle fleets

Preferred:

• Familiarity with Washington State Department of Transportation and WSP inspection standards
• ASE certification or technical training in vehicle repair

• Variable hours during the school year (schedule to be determined)
• Additional hours may be available during summer months
• Hourly wage: $24.37 + DOE
• Sick pay
