POSITION TITLE: Driver/ Social Services Attendant

STATUS: Regular Full-Time/Non-exempt

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Social Services Coordinator

UNIT: Seattle White Center

Overview

The Driver/ Social Services Attendant supports the Social Services Coordinator by completing daily tasks that include picking up donations, assisting in the food pantry, preparing food for program needs, and performing additional duties as assigned.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, with the possibility of evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Hours typically vary from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Education & Experience
  • High School diploma or GED completion.
  • Ability to read and write clearly in English.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license.
  • Qualifications
  • 21 years old and legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Valid Washington driver’s license; able to pass TSA MVR check and in-house driving test. Commercial driver’s license with passenger endorsement preferred.
  • Must complete and pass The Salvation Army’s Driver’s Training and Testing Program.
  • Current Food Handler Permit (can be earned after hire).
  • Current First Aid and CPR card (can be earned after hire).
  • Able to lift 50 lbs., stand or walk 80% of the shift.
  • Ability to operate a pallet jack and other warehouse equipment.
  • Ability to push or pull moving carts and racks up to 300 lbs.
  • Food safety knowledge and experience.
  • Strong verbal and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working with people of diverse economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Drive daily to pick up and transport donations.
  • Inventory food and assist with bringing food up for distribution.
  • Store perishable food according to food safety guidelines.
  • Wear appropriate uniform/TSA logo wear gear.
  • Maintain the Target inventory list and keep the donation area sorted and organized.
  • Maintain a mileage log as required.
  • Keep vehicles clean, fueled, washed, vacuumed, and interior sanitized.
  • Notify Operations Manager of needed vehicle repairs.
  • Drive for other programs or additional tasks as assigned.
  • Lock and secure vehicles after use.
  • Break down and haul cardboard to the recycler.
  • Haul donations to thrift stores.
  • Maintain cleanliness around the dock entrance and trash area.
  • Assist the Social Services Coordinator with daily food pantry operations; may lead the pantry when coordinator is absent.
  • Sweep and mop the pantry and main hallway; address spills immediately.
  • Maintain the warehouse (sweep, mop, organize) at least once a week; empty trash daily.
  • Communicate with stores and vendors to confirm food and supply pickups.
  • Lifting, loading, and unloading boxes from vehicle.
  • Perform daily ground pickups at shift start.
  • Operate pallet jack to move food pallets on and off transport.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Compliance with Protecting the Mission requirements and ability to pass a TSA background check.

    • Microsoft Office:
      Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook.
    • Data entry – learning skills required to enter client information.
    • Basic internet skills.
    Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Proficiency in grasping, pushing, pulling objects such as files and drawers, and reaching overhead.
  • Use hand‑to‑finger dexterity to handle objects, tools, or controls.
  • Operate telephone.
  • Operate desktop or laptop computer.
  • Lift 20 lbs.
  • Access and produce information from a computer.
  • Understand written information.
  • Operate a motor vehicle.
