Job Description Moving & Surplus has an outstanding opportunity for a Driver / Mover (Truck Driver
2) to join their team.

About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Program Support Supervisor, the Truck Driver 2 is responsible for driving a 2-1/2 ton moving van and performing commercial moves in administrative, academic, and research facilities; move, handle, and transport equipment, furniture, materials, and supplies and load/unload trucks in manner to protect material using appropriate equipment, pads, etc. in support of the Moving & Surplus program.

This position is 100% on-site at the Seattle campus and is not telework eligible.

Key Responsibilities 100%
  • Drive a 2-1/2 ton moving van. Operate hydraulic lift gate. Receive, load and unload, and deliver furniture, equipment, materials and supplies to various locations on and off the UW Seattle campus. Move furniture, equipment, materials, and supplies within room, building, and/or between buildings as described on job card. Advise clients and communicate on move preparations, process, and progress.
  • Pick up surplused materials from UW department locations. Input receipt of inventory and inventory disposition status into the surplus inventory management system. Identify hazardous and regulated materials, such as asbestos, lead, sharps, chemicals, biohazards, mercury, radioactive materials, PCBs, following proper guidelines. Ensure all cleaning and decontamination procedures are completed before removing materials from client locations. Advise clients of inventory updates and changes, materials requiring special handling, and/or materials unable to pick up as requested.
  • Protect material being transported and moved using pads, carpet, cardboard, etc. Protect buildings, elevators, grounds, etc. as necessary in preparation for movement of materials. Assess building spaces, including rooms, hallways, and/or elevators, and materials to be moved for damage prior to move and document any pre-existing damage.
  • Load, unload, move, and distribute furniture, equipment, and materials within the surplus warehouse. Safely operate material handling equipment used in loading, unloading, moving, and delivering furniture, equipment, materials, and supplies. Material handling equipment includes but is not limited to: forklifts, electric and manual pallet jacks, hand trucks, 4-wheel dollies, panel carts, and machine carts.
  • Perform pre-trip vehicle inspections and minor service on assigned vehicle, (e.g. tire pressure, windshield fluid), and clean the interior and exterior of the vehicle as needed. Report malfunctions, repair needs, hazardous conditions, unsafe work practices, and any damage to equipment, furniture, materials, buildings, or vehicles immediately to the Program Support Supervisor.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of goals, performance measures, and continuous service delivery improvements to enhance workplace practices and processes, thereby adding value to the services provided.
  • Operate a cell phone and respond within 15 minutes. Call office whenever a job will take longer than anticipated by the scheduler. Notify lead and scheduler immediately if daily work assigned will not be completed, additional staffing is needed, or job needs to be rescheduled.
  • Provide completed job card to customer on site and request appropriate signature. Submit completed job cards at end of each day. Report any unfinished jobs directly to lead and scheduler. Provide accurate documentation as requested.
  • Assist in sustainment of moving equipment storage areas and equipment maintenance. Return equipment to appropriate storage location. Notify supervisor of any equipment needing to be repaired and/or replaced. Recommend equipment purchases to Supervisor.
  • Use, maintain and replace assigned personal protective equipment.
  • Provide feedback to supervisor and lead regarding moving operations and customer feedback.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
