THE SCHOOL BOARD OF HIGHLANDS COUNTY

POSITION TITLE:
Licensed Athletic Trainer


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Licensed by the State of Florida as an athletic trainer
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution as determined by the Florida Department of Education
  • Completed an approved athletic training curriculum from an accredited educational institution as determined by the Florida Department of Education
  • Current certification in cardiovascular pulmonary resuscitation and first aid from the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association, or an equivalent certification
  • Physical requirements to perform essential functions and tasks which may include exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 20 pounds of force as frequently as necessary; lifting, crawling, kneeling, bending, stooping, pulling, and pushing, if required
  • Satisfactory clearance of a criminal history records check and drug screening
  • ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Athletic Trainer intent, licensure, and minimum requirements are based on Florida Statute 1012.46 and State Board of Education Administrative Rule 468.70, 468.707
  • If not included in current CPR training, must obtain certification in the use of an automated external defibrillator
  • PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Recognizes, prevents, and treats physical injuries sustained during athletic activities/events
  • On call/present at scheduled athletic activities/events
  • Reports to supervising Principal and Athletic Director
  • Remains current in knowledge and skills as a licensed athletic trainer
  • Abides by Code of Ethics and Principals of Professional Conduct at all times
  • Communicates with district, school, and community stakeholders when appropriate
  • Processes all required documents and paperwork pertinent to the position
  • Familiarizes and complies with state and district policies and procedures
  • ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

    Performs duties as directed by Athletic Director and/or supervising Principal

    TERM:

    Supplemental position only; hours determined by Athletic Director and or supervising Principal

    APPRAISAL:

    Performance appraised by Athletic Director and school administrator

    PAYGRADE:

    Based on Board approved supplemental salary schedule
