Inspection Specialist -
The Division of Hotels and Restaurants (H&R) licenses, inspects, and regulates public lodging and food service establishments in Florida under Chapter 509, Florida Statutes (FS). The division also licenses and regulates elevators, escalators and other vertical conveyance devices under Chapter 399, FS. The work you will do This position acts as an elevator inspector for the Bureau of Elevator Safety and must be registered as a Certified Elevator Inspector.
This position conducts monitoring and oversight inspections to enforce the elevator safety codes for safety, mechanical, electrical, and general maintenance, and performs inspections of new building construction, associated facilities and building systems, and enforcing compliance with state building and life safety codes. Performs monitoring and oversight inspections of work performed by private and/or contracted jurisdiction Certified Elevator Inspectors on new, existing and altered, operating elevators to ensure compliance with Elevator Safety Codes (ASME A17.1 and A17.3), National Electrical Code, Florida Statutes Chapter 399, Florida Administrative Code 61C-5, Handicapped Laws and Fire Safety Rules of the State Fire Marshal's Office.
Performs monitoring inspection of 2 stop exempt elevators and performs complaint inspections. Performs, when required, accident inspections to determine whether the elevator is in safe operating condition, or it needs to be sealed. Performs compliance monitoring of the status of sealed and the status of delinquent elevators. Issues elevator inspection reports to construction permit holders and elevator owners, setting forth violations and establishing a time certain for compliance.
When necessary, performs callback inspections to ensure discrepancies are corrected. These inspections may be performed in various areas of state, with a maximum of 25% travel required. Prepares and maintains accurate records relating to inspection reports issued, daily report activity, bi-weekly leave and attendance reports and monthly reports relating to inspection activities, travel costs, mileage, vehicle repair and operating costs.
Prepares various reports to input into the electronic data processing inspection and licensing system in accordance with established bureau policies and procedures. Performs other related work as required or directed including:
Assists in the resolution of construction problems involving elevators with contractors, architects, building officials, fire officials, elevator companies and elevator owners. Posts notices of discontinue operation of elevators or install physical seals to elevators found to be operating in an unsafe condition. Represents the bureau in meetings involving the elevator, building or electrical codes established that are pertinent to the elevator industry.
Provides technical assistance to Division personnel, elevator owners, elevator companies, building officials and fire officials on interpretations of Elevator Safety Code, National Electrical Code, Chapter 399, Florida Statutes, Chapter 61C-5, Florida Administrative Code and the Bureau's policies and procedures. Knowledge, skills and abilities Knowledge of the ASME A17.1 Elevator Safety Code, and laws, rules, policies, and procedures applicable to the Bureau of Elevator Safety.
Skilled as a Qualified Elevator Inspector (national) and registered as a Certified Elevator Inspector with the Division of Hotels and Restaurants. Ability to collect, review, and verify data relating to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, building, elevator, or structural inspections. Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, building, elevator, or structural inspections. Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to work independently. Minimum requirements Currently registered as a Certified Elevator Inspector (Florida), Chapter 399 F.S., OR ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hiring Qualified Elevator Inspector (National), in good standing Valid Driver License Willing and able to travel within the State of Florida 25% of the time as required
