Counselor II - Prevention Specialist, Sebring FL

Employees in this position perform duties related to the prevention of substance use, and the care, treatment, and rehabilitation of program clients. Employees in this position are aware of available community resources, they make appropriate referrals to same, and they function as a member of a prevention team.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assesses needs of individuals who are at risk for substance abuse and mental health services.
  • Teaches alcohol/drug education classes and provides other educational services.
  • Performs case management functions such as maintaining case records and coordinating additional services as needed, including referral to treatment as appropriate.
  • Provides individual counseling to prevention program clients under the supervision of a Program Supervisor.
  • Acts as a group leader/facilitator during group counseling sessions.
  • Performs other reasonable and related duties as requested by the immediate supervisor or administrative personnel.
Minimum Training and Experience

Requires Bachelor’s Degree in field related to Human Services from an accredited college or university, which include but not limited to:
Social Work;
Clinical Psychology;
Counseling;
Rehabilitative Counseling;
Counseling Education;
Education;
Criminal Justice; or Ministry and one (1) year experience preferred in a Community Prevention, Mental Health, Addictions Treatment or School setting or certification as an Addictions Professional (CAP, CAAP, CAPP) by the Certification Board for Addiction Professionals of Florida or at least five (5) years experience in Prevention. Requires participation in a staff training program.

Requires knowledge of addictions and/or mental health prevention including types of programs, various therapeutic methods and techniques, and an understanding of the factors contributing to the development of substance abuse and/or mental health problems.
