Job Summary

The Data Center Technician III assists in the operational integrity, security, and regulatory compliance of the data center. The role requires strong knowledge of telecommunications, mechanical, electrical, and life‑safety systems along with data center operating procedures.

Shift

Night Shift: Monday‑Friday 11:30 pm – 7:00 am

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems – Electrical, Mechanical, Communications, Building Monitoring and Control.
  • Track and trend operational characteristics; provide feedback to management on effectiveness of standards and processes.
  • Collaborate with contractors, consultants, and senior technicians on system expansions, corrections, upgrades, and preventive maintenance.
  • Ensure data center operates at maximum efficiency, recommend technologies, identify cost‑reductions, and avoid unplanned outages.
  • Navigate and utilize a CMMS system; complete work orders, trouble tickets, and remote‑hands requests promptly.
  • Perform mechanical tasks: chilled‑water systems, HVAC (roof‑top, CRAC/CRAH, humidification), and central plant operations.
  • Perform electrical tasks: path from utility/generator main switch gear, UPS systems, power circuits, PDUs, and critical power distribution.
  • Fire and life‑safety duties: monitor sprinkler systems, detect devices, and respond to alarms.
  • Telecommunications duties: cross‑connect installations, cabling infrastructure management, remote‑hands support, and customer cage/cabinet build‑outs.
  • Maintain pest‑free, secure facilities through regular tours, incident escalation, and documentation.
Key Duties
  • Complete Core Site’s Data Center Operations Qualification Program within nine months.
  • Manage system reliability and performance while documenting and responding to findings.
  • Assist with database management of maintenance discrepancies and resolve site issues per priority.
  • Coordinate and oversee power installations, upgrades, and auxiliary systems.
  • Guide and participate in asset and consumable inventory management and proper labeling of equipment.
  • Serve in a technical‑writing capacity for preventative or corrective maintenance procedures.
  • Promote Core Site’s Principles of Operational Excellence and provide integrated mechanical and control expertise.
  • Cage and cabinet build‑outs, overhead installations, rack and stack, fiber and copper cabling terminations, and circuit path verification.
Requirements Knowledge
  • Electrical and mechanical system fundamentals for data centers.
  • Fiber optics and cabling infrastructure best practices.
  • NEC, NFPA 70E, 72, 25, and related safety codes.
  • Industrial safety practices (lock‑out/tag‑out, arc‑flash, OSHA).
  • Data‑trending, tracking, and PC‑based integrated monitoring systems.
Skills
  • 2+ years of installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large commercial/industrial systems – chilled water, chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, pumps, HVAC, CRAC/CRAH, humidifiers, BMS/PLC, generators, UPS, emergency systems, cabling, network hardware.
  • Experience in fiber and copper communications cabling installation and troubleshooting.
  • Leadership, communication, and Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.
Abilities
  • Effective customer communication and internal coordination.
  • Contractor coordination and supervision.
  • Rapid learning and problem analysis in a dynamic environment.
  • Multi‑tasking across projects.
  • Operational use of hand & power tools, electrical test equipment.
Education / Experience
  • High school diploma or greater.
  • 2‑5 years experience in the data‑center industry.
  • Successful completion of an extensive background check.
