About the Role

In this position, the Principal Field System Engineer serves as the first line of contact for customers during new product enablement. The role sits within the Field Engineering organization responsible for delivering next generation hyperscale compute solutions. The individual will be responsible for technical enablement and triaging customer sightings and change requests for all aspects of the customer offerings including systems management, hardware, software, firmware, component integration, debug, and testing.

This role is highly matrixed and requires strong influential skills to manage multiple organizations within ZT to close out issues related to new product introductions (NPIs). The position also requires a strong sense of soft skills to effectively work directly with customers, account management, marketing, internal technical organizations, and core technology partners to understand and solve technical problems facing the customer.

The ultimate goal of the Field System Engineer is to delight the customer by successfully enabling new products to be customer qualified, on schedule, with minimal perturbation.

What You’ll Do
  • Act as the first point of contact for customer needs or issues during NPIs.
  • Deliver long-term hyperscale server technology solutions based on technical and business requirements of the customer.
  • Drive internal and external integration of system level engineering and support successful execution during the NPI phase.
  • Develop long-term technical relationships with the core technology ecosystem to showcase the value of ZT engineering and support, and drive requirements into next generation designs.
  • Identify and develop differentiation opportunities and drive thought leadership discussions between marketing, engineering, customers, and business executives.
  • Work directly with customers on integration and deployment of new server hardware including configuring BIOS, PXE, UBoot, IPMI, and RAID, etc.
  • Determine how to solve performance/operational problems and deliver business value.
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree (BSEE/BSCE/BSCS) and 12+ years of direct experience in server or a related industry (alternatively MS and 10+ years).
  • Knowledge of server architecture, system level design engineering, and an understanding of shared infrastructure management.
  • Experience with the new product development lifecycle and driving cross-functional development efforts from concept to planning to development.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and manage to commit schedules.
  • Demonstrated ability to create detailed architecture specifications and drive business cases for new products and features.
  • Strong understanding of network/server technologies and the challenges of delivering networked/server-based applications.
  • Working knowledge of multiple ZT Systems server operating systems and related certifications is preferred.
  • Server virtualization solutions (VMware, Citrix, or Microsoft). Knowledge of software driver implementation, IP schemas, and network protocols.
