Overview
The Arizona Department of Public Safety is seeking motivated and experienced personnel to join our team. Criminal Intelligence Analysts perform detailed research and analysis of criminal intelligence information. Work involves analyzing data, writing reports, and developing links between criminals and crime groups or patterns of criminal activity. Performs related duties as assigned. This is a competitive classification. This recruitment will be used to establish a state-wide 18-month eligibility list to fill current and future vacancies over the life of the list.
Testing
Information
This recruitment includes testing phases. Phase 1:
Written Exam — Weighted 10% (Top 40 passing to Phase
2). Phase 1 testing is scheduled for March 6, 2026, in Phoenix. An invitation with detailed information will be emailed to applicants meeting the minimum qualifications. Phase 2:
Practical Exercise — Weighted 40%;
Qualifications Appraisal Board (QAB) — Weighted 50%. Must successfully complete the examination process. If you have a disability which may require an accommodation, please notify Human Resources in writing prior to the test date.
Responsibilities
Researches, analyzes, evaluates and correlates criminal intelligence information in order to determine source reliability, content validity and potential truthfulness; to develop investigative leads and links; and to distinguish patterns and trends.Organizes and maintains sensitive, non-sensitive and open source case data and/or files into logical, concise and understandable order for retrieval if further analysis is needed.Collects and compiles criminal intelligence information and statistics to generate intelligence data for support in investigations through personal contact; manipulation and query of database systems; and reading and recording various intelligence, analytical and administrative information.Prepares and presents detailed graphical presentations and briefings to share organized facts and statistics, and criminal intelligence analyses with DPS personnel, case investigators, prosecutors and other law enforcement agencies.Assesses or determines intelligence information requirements or needs in order to recommend, plan, prioritize and implement collection plans, targets or case strategies.Acts as a liaison with internal and external groups/individuals to provide analytical assistance, collect and/or disseminate intelligence data, and share resource sources.Enters data, reports or records of criminal intelligence information into a database for use and reference by analysts and investigators in support of investigations. Performs frequent quality control checks of the intelligence database to ensure accuracy and integrity.Assists in coordination of major case investigations by prioritizing collection of data, delegating assignments, establishing schedules, organizing resources, monitoring progress, making recommendations and projecting trends to ensure accountability, quality control and timely completion of projects and cases.Assists in the design, testing and/or maintenance of operational databases, analytical software, hardware and peripheral equipment to enhance the quality of work product, improve productivity and ensure equipment is functioning properly.Participates in the development of unit goals, objectives and performance measures to improve operations and effectiveness.Creates, prepares and reviews various intelligence documents to disseminate information.Remains current on job specific procedures through various sources, training courses and organizational meetings to keep abreast of current changes and events relating to law enforcement and criminal intelligence analysis.Participates in multi-agency task force investigations, work groups or committees to provide analytical assistance to meet the objectives of DPS and other law enforcement agencies by contributing intelligence analysis and concepts.May direct and train various personnel to guide, manage and control work product.May direct the activities of the unit in the supervisor's absence.Knowledge of
