Skill Bridge Data Center Technician – Summary

The Skill Bridge Data Center Technician assists in the operational integrity, security, and regulatory compliance of the data center. The technician will gain working knowledge of data center operations including telecommunications, mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems as well as data center operating procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Day‑to‑day operations of the data center, including facilities and telecom infrastructure.
  • Mechanical tasks: maintain chilled water systems, HVAC (roof‑top units, CRAC/CRAH, humidification), and central plant operations.
  • Electrical tasks: oversee critical power distribution from switch gear to UPS to customer load, and perform power circuit installations.
  • Fire life safety: monitor wet and pre‑action sprinkler systems and associated detection devices.
  • Telecommunications: cross‑connect installations, cabling infrastructure management, advanced remote‑hands support, cable termination and testing.
  • Customer infrastructure build‑outs: cage builds, overhead installations, rack and stack, cable termination, testing and maintenance work.
  • Operate, monitor, and respond to abnormal conditions in mechanical, electrical, communications, and building monitoring systems.
  • Analyze operating conditions, recommend new technologies, and improve overall efficiency and cost reduction in line with Core Site guidelines.
  • Coordinate with contractors and consultants for system expansions, corrections, and upgrades.
  • Track and complete preventive and predictive maintenance schedules, manage CMMS system, and resolve maintenance discrepancies.
  • Manage trouble tickets, remote hands, fiber and copper cabling terminations, circuit path creation, and power installations.
  • Execute work orders, customer service tickets, and infrastructure projects.
  • Provide customer service, incident escalation, response, and follow‑up report writing; conduct facility and security tours.
  • Write technical procedures and maintain documentation for preventive and corrective maintenance.
Duties
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal facility conditions.
  • Analyze and improve operational efficiency.
  • Adhere to mechanical loading capacity guidelines for cooling system efficiency.
  • Coordinate system expansions, corrections, and upgrades with contractors.
  • Track preventive and predictive maintenance schedules.
  • Assist with database management of maintenance discrepancies.
  • Manage trouble tickets and remote hands activities.
  • Perform fiber and copper cabling terminations and circuit path verification.
  • Coordinate power installations and upgrades.
  • Complete work orders and customer service tickets promptly.
  • Participate in technical writing for maintenance procedures.
  • Adhere to Core Site’s Principles of Operational Excellence and core values.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Firm understanding of electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center.
  • Proficient in fiber optics, cabling infrastructure, and industry best practices.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and related building codes for fire life safety.
  • Proficient in industrial safety best practices (lockout/tag‑out, arc flash protection, OSHA).
  • Experience with data trending, tracking, and analysis using PC‑based monitoring systems.
  • Minimum of 2 years installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large commercial and industrial systems including chilled water systems, HVAC equipment, UPS systems, generator systems, and electrical distribution.
  • Experience laying out, pulling, dressing, and terminating fiber and copper communications cabling.
  • Knowledge of IT hardware, servers, network switches, and structured cabling.
  • Leadership, excellent written and oral communication, and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and internal staff.
  • Ability to coordinate, supervise, and communicate with contractors; quick learner; multi‑tasking capability.
  • Proficiency with machine tools (hammer, drill, saw) and electrical tools (multimeter, infrared camera).
Education & Experience
  • Military service members eligible for the DoD Skill Bridge Program.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2–5 years of related experience.
